Nintendo opened the European Mario Sports Superstars website today, accessible here. It has a bit of footage showing off the different sports as well as a ton of in-depth details about each one. Continue on below for all of the new content.

Overview

Become a Superstar – it’s Mario Sports time!

Take to the field with an all-star line-up in Mario Sports Superstars, an action-packed selection of supercharged sports only for Nintendo 3DS family systems. Set your squad of Super Mario favourites on the road to superstardom in five of the world’s most popular sports, and compete with others nearby and online*!

Five fully-fledged sports

Tear up the turf in 11-a-side Football matches, slug it out in Baseball, get on the green in Golf and own the court in Tennis. For something a bit different, saddle up and get ready for some fast-paced Horse Racing! These are full-scale sports, featuring layers of depth, strategy and real-world authenticity.

You against the world

Each sport features its own in-depth single-player mode with various tournaments to conquer, as well as a number of multiplayer options, so you can duke it out with friends and foes, near or far. Compete via Local Play or take the rivalry online in all five sports!

At the top of your game

You can up your game with the new range of Mario Sports Superstars amiibo cards (sold separately or as part of a software bundle)! You don’t need amiibo cards to play, but by tapping them in, you can boost your characters’ stats and abilities, and even unlock new gear for them to use. Look out for specially-marked packages at launch, which include one randomly-selected amiibo card!

An all-star line-up

A number of Mushroom Kingdom favourites are ready to battle it out for supremacy, so you can assemble the ultimate squad! In team sports, pick your squad mates wisely – each character has their own strengths and weaknesses, and a well-balanced team could make all the difference.

Practice makes perfect

If you’re making your debut in any particular sport, be sure to get familiar with the ins and outs before you head out onto the pitch. Training modes for each sport allow you to get to grips with the basics, then you can hone your skills further in minigames.

Soccer

Lace up your boots and get ready for the big match, with full-on 11-a-side footballing action! Play your way through single-player tournaments in front of sell-out crowds and become world-beaters, or go head-to-head in multiplayer matches for up to four people.

Squad goals

Assemble your dream team and select your favoured formation, then take to the turf for some seriously ferocious footie! Each character has their own attributes, so experiment with different teams, formations and play styles to find the winning formula.

With a complete squad at your disposal, work the ball into your opponent’s half and try to find an opening. Will you play it neat and narrow, or spread it out to the wings and whip some crosses into the box? Your call, gaffer!

Pick that out!

Keep the ball moving to charge your special gauge, then unleash an almighty special shot to really test the opposition ‘keeper. Characters who favour Technique will try to curl one into the top corner, while Power players like Bowser will put their laces right through it. You just don’t save those!

Silky skills

You can even perform spectacular skill moves while dribbling to get past your opponents, and mix it up with a range of different passing options. Trick your way into the box with some feints and step overs, then drill in a cross for the strikers to hammer home. Gooooaaalllll!

Baseball

Step up to the plate and knock it out of the park in Baseball! Draft your team of nine and head out into one of four huge stadiums to play ball, Super Mario style. Go the whole nine innings as you pitch and bat your way to glory, alone or with others.

Swing away

Dust off those cleats and get ready to dominate the diamond, with a number of different swings and tactical options. Power swings are tougher to pull off than contact swings, but can send the ball absolutely soaring, while powerful special moves can really turn a game on its head.

Strategic players will also appreciate the bunt option, providing an almost guaranteed hit, while baserunners can be instructed with a number of quick options. Round third base and head for the home stretch!

Pitch perfect

You’ll have a similar amount of control when it comes to pitching, too. Depending on the character you’re playing as, you’ll have access to all sorts of different pitch techniques, like screwballs, forkballs, sliders and more. Keep the batter guessing as you place your throws to perfection and send ‘em packing.

Strategically pick off runners by telling your fielders which base to throw to, set your infield to sit deep or push closer, bring in relief pitchers to replace tired players and much more. Just like in the real sport, there’s a lot of strategy to consider!
