Ah yes, it is that time of year again– time to start preparing and setting up our participation in Extra Life 2013! Last year we participated for the first time ever and managed to play video games for 24 hours straight while people watched us live over the internet. This year, it’s going to be the same deal only BIGGER, BADDER, and BETTER than ever! So, here’s the low-down:
What is Extra Life? What have you gotten yourselves into this time?
Extra Life is a charity organization that is most famous for setting up a global 24-hour gaming marathon that has gamers attempting to play any game– board game, video game, card game, etc– for 24 hours straight without stopping. Anyone can participate, and your fundraising goal can be any amount you want– don’t hesitate to sign up yourself if you think you can get a few friends or family members to pitch in a couple bucks.
100% of the money goes to the charity, and it’s used to purchase video games and consoles for kids who are chronically ill or otherwise have to stay in hospitals for extended periods. The games are meant to help take their minds off of what they may be going through, which I’m sure many of you who have spent time in a hospital can relate to!
So… what are you guys doing?
We (Austin, Jack, and Laura– your podcast crew) are going to play video games for 24 hours straight and stream it all live to the world! The stream will be attached to this Youtube channel, and it will run from 8AM central time to 8AM central time November 2nd to November 3rd, 2013. You can watch, you can donate, you can chat with us, and (with any luck) you can call in to participate in various “events” that we will be holding throughout the day-long period. What “events” can you expect?
Here’s the preliminary list of things we want to do if we reach particular fundraising goals:
$100 – Discussion: Which 3D Zelda game is the best? (while playing Wind Waker HD)
$200 – Video Game Jeopardy LIVE! (with viewer call-ins)
$400 – Oregon Trail LIVE! (viewers call in to make the tough choices with us)
$500 – Who Wants to be a Millionaire LIVE! (with viewer call-ins)
$600 – Two People Playin’ Games LIVE! (not sure what game yet)
$800 – The Walking Dead LIVE! (viewers call in to make the tough choices with us)
$1000 – Eggbusters LIVE! (not sure what game/glitch yet)
$1000+ – ??? ??? ???
These events are subject to change, and we’re trying to think up other events as well. If you have any ideas, don’t forget to vote in the poll!

YES! You can actually join our fundraising team by clicking here and signing up! When presented with the option, choose “Join a Team” and then select “NintendoEverything/Eggbusters” from the drop-down list. Any money you raise will go towards our goal of $1,500, so even if you think you can only get $5, $10, or $20 for playing games all day and night, we urge you to sign up. We want all of the help we can get!
