First review of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

Posted on November 16, 2009 by (@NE_Brian) in DS, News

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks won’t be shipping to store shelves in a couple of weeks. However, fans of the series are probably wondering how the latest handheld Zelda title holds up. The Official Nintendo Magazine has written the first review in issue number 50 and gave it a 91%. In case you are wondering, Phantom Hourglass received a 95% from the magazine back in 2007. While Phantom Hourglass earned a higher score, Fred Dutton, the man who wrote the review of Spirit Tracks in ONM, said that Link’s latest outing “is better than Phantom Hourglass” in a recent roundup of reader Q&A.

While 91% is a good score, it would be best to see reviews outside Nintendo-centric magazines like The Official Nintendo Magazine. The magazine tends to score high-profile games higher than most outlets, and it is not included in aggregate review sites like Gamerankings.com. I predict that the game will will receive a similar reception as Phantom Hourglass.

only 91%? but the guy said that st is better than ph so that is a good sign.

  • ONM is included in Metacritics algorithm, not sure about gamerankings though. They are actually give pretty fair scores.

ONM is infact included on gamerankings aswell. I subscribe to ONM and I always find thier reviews to be very good. I do find that they give slightly higher scores, but I believe that’s just because they’re more enthusiastic about games and less snobby.

Let’s not forget that they gave scribblenauts a 10/10.

  • Being on Metacritic isn’t all that hard. A site simply has to have over 300 reviews over the history of their site. This doesn’t really speak to their credibility, more so to their consistency of writing many reviews.

I’ll wait for more reviews to hit.
