I think we can all agree that by and large, we don't play enough video games. It's not necessarily that we don't have time to do so, it's just that when our free time rolls around, we tend to spend it doing something easy like watching TV or surfing the internet, instead of putting forth effort to engage in one of our favorite pastimes. This is, by and large, why Jack, Laura, and myself of NintendoEverything's "Here's a Podcast!" are proposing that we start a "video game club", a la the book clubs of days gone by, where we can all choose a game, play it more or less at the same pace, and come together to discuss it in depth every week.

Sound like something you want to participate in? Then here's what you need to do:

1) Vote in our first poll, choosing one of ten games that will be played starting next week.

2) Acquire that game however you see fit, and play it alongside us every week. There will be set goals to meet, similar to "how many chapters to read" every week in a book club.

3) At the end of each week, send in your opinions about the sections of the games we played via email, commenting, etc etc so we can all discuss the game (whether we love it or hate it) together! We'll tell you more about your options for this as the date approaches.

For now, all you've gotta do is vote! More details will roll in as you need them, but slamming you with all the technicals about how this should work isn't going to be nearly as effective as simply doing it step by step. Sort of like how it's easier to learn to play Settlers of Catan if you just start and explain it along the way.

If you have any suggestions about how to pull this off without it being a mess, please let us know in the comments!

Here's a link to the poll.

We should totally start with Smart Girls' Magical Book Club :p

But anyway, *actual suggestion*. It needs to be games that are easily accesible to everyone. A lot of people don't have Wii U's/3DSes yet, so it might put people off from participating until the idea becomes more widespread. Also, Handheld games may work better with this idea since you can just pick them up and down when you have the time (like a book) rather than having to sit there for ages and play.

@Tiggy: Voting should allow it that the most number of people can play any given week.

I definitely don't want to limit to just handhelds (playing through a console Zelda game together would be a blast!), but I agree the game needs to be accessible by the most number of people. :]

If I had the new consoles, I'd probably agree that new popular releases are the way to go

This sounds like a lot of fun. I'm interested in trying it out at least for one game.

Austin, how many hours of gameplay do you expect each week to be? Obviously it will vary by person and game, but on average?

So, how is this gonna work? Do we just start off at the beginning of the game and race each other to a certain part of a game while using the chat?

NintendoEverything's Book Club for Video Games (Beta Testing

@pie: I was just thinking about that, actually. I don't want this to take up so much time that we can't play any other games for non-book club purposes, so I would guess 4-5 hours, give or take. I'll discuss it with the podcast crew.

@KidNintendo: Not quite! After the podcast on Saturday we'll all start the game (whatever that may be) and by the end of the week we'll all get to an agreed-upon point. During the next podcast, there will be an added section (15 min or so) specifically dedicated to discussing the point in the game we all played over the past week.

Since you guys aren't actually ON the podcast, we'll have methods for you to get your thoughts/questions/observations in. More info on that later.
