General movies thread of what have you seen lately?

Batman: Year One - I really like this. Focuses a lot on the police corruption in Gotham, Bruce's rise to Batman and Gordon's rise to Commissioner. It made me appreciate Gordon a lot more as a character. Though I kind of hated Catwoman's portrayal and her character design is really ugly. Why does DC choose such bad character designers?

Little Miss Sunshine - I liked this, I totally get the appeal but it just doesn't click with me. I guess I'm not an indie film person.

Death Race - I really liked this. Great action packed film and compelling drama.

Dark Shadows - Haha, man this movie. It's so dumb, it's good. I can definitely tell this is based on a soap opera and that knowledge alone explains everything. Random plot twists that made no sense, zero substance to the romance (he literally falls in love with her because her "birthing hips" or something lmao), cheesy backstories, really childish villain, awkward horror and fighting scenes. I can't help but think Burton knew this soap opera was bad and was like "Oh man I GOTTA make this into a movie!". I think that much is evident because the movie never seemed to take itself too seriously. Which is good. If it took itself seriously, I'd probably hate it.

Well, the characters are based on Mazzucchelli (lol, I just checked online for his name before posting this because I thought I was destroying this guys name. I was) art, the movie does a great job reproducing his style, so you can blame him, not DC editorial, because they really did a great job. Men, if you didnt like Cawoman s portrayal dont check the short. Its the closest thing to "official" porn DC will ever do. Actually, that would make you check that out.

I love LMS and DS, both in their own ways. I havent seen Death Race.

Maybe but even with some other DC works like Young Justice and Justice League Doom, a lot of the characters just look too similar. It really bothers me. The animated series' had the best character designs imo. And the shorts in Gotham Knight had some great character designs too.

I actually didnt like most of the styles from Gotham Knight, I guess Im just not into anime. One of the style made Bruce look like a lady.

The Brave and the Bold had a pretty awesome style, too.

Yeah I loved Brave and the Bold's design as well. My friend always tells me to watch the Music Meister episode because he's apparently an amazing villain.

I guess I just prefer cartoon-y designs over realism.

Seriously, I LOVE the show. That being said, a LOT of the humor relies in silver age comics/old crazy Batman stories and that can be a problem to newcomers. Of course, not all episodes are like that, the Music Meister is a great example. You should check that ep out, I think the Meister is your kind of villain.

Also, I saw a horror movie starring Jennifer Lawrence. The hose somewhere down the street I think It was ok, the beginning is boring but the last act is fun.

I saw Bridesmaids yesterday. Surprisingly hilarious. I laughed for like 20 minutes at the penis joke at the beginning of the movie.

And Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and 2. I know, a lot of Batman lately. But man, this is probably the most morbid iteration of Batman I've seen (yeah even more-so than Dark Knight). A few of the scenes had me with my mouth open. That never happens to me. But I really loved the film.

Oh yeah. How did Brave beat out Wreck-It Ralph for best animated movie? I saw both, liked both, but Wreck-It Ralph was definitely better...

I haven't even seen Wreck-it Ralph and I know it's better.

I saw the Music Meister episode. That was the greatest thing ever! Dat baritone Batman opera voice. I like that he's voiced by Neil Patrick Harris and also that he's a completely original character to the Brave and Bold canon.

edit: Oh I forgot to mention I saw 28 Days Later. I've never really seen any zombie films, this is my first. But I thought it was really good. Also the fact that they run like normal humans is pretty frightening.

I have to say, Grey DeLise has the best voice ever. You should really check other episodes, Aquaman is just Badass. Probably check the Batmite eps.

Good film, but I didn't like all of the stories. My main problem with musicals is that people sing (quite literally) about their feelings, over and over again. And this isn't one of those films where a bunch of songs are spread out through it; 95% of it is singing. Nontheless, the set pieces were amazing, and Sacha Baron Cohen delivers again.

2 Oscar nominated films down, 7 to go.
