[Let’s Talk] Pokemon Sun, Pokemon Moon, or both

Posted on October 30, 2016 by (@NE_Brian) in 3DS, Let's Talk

We have one simple question to ask as part of this week’s Let’s Talk topic. When the new Pokemon games come out, are you planning on picking up Sun, Moon, or both?

Just like with past entries, Sun and Moon will feature exclusive Pokemon. Sun naturally has Solgaleo while Moon offers Lunala. Others include Midday Form Lycanroc and Passimian in Sun while Moon contains Midnight Form Lycanroc and Oranguru. Aside from that, Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon take place 12 hours apart, and Totem Pokemon will depend on the version you choose.

I’m personally still trying to figure out which version I’m more interested in. I’m leaning slightly more towards Sun, but I may just pick up both in the end. What about you guys?

Highlights from last week’s topic: Your reactions to Switch

While we only had around 3 minutes of footage, what I have seen so far is not bad.

My chief concerns came from my experience with the Wii and the Wii U. I did not enjoy the Wii remote, nor did I enjoy the Wii U Gamepad. In both cases, I wanted a traditional gaming experience, and it often felt like Nintendo was aggressively trying to push these “new ways to play” on its consumers. Now, if you like those, you may not react negatively, but when it is something you don’t find appealing, having these control methods pushed aggressively on you becomes a source of frustration. I was often left saying “Why can’t you let me play how I want to play?”

The Switch’s messaging is already much more reassuring from the get-go. They put a heavy emphasis on talking about letting people play the way they want to. They made sure to show the Pro controller right away, and made a point to say that you can use it instead of the Joy-con, the default controllers. So far, it feels as if I could safely just pre-order a game without worrying about the controls.

The marketing was aimed at adults with jobs and responsibilities. It shows grown people doing grown-up things. In other words, it targets core gamers. it was refreshing to not see families and children in the commercials for once. I think it shows that they learned their lessons on that front. After all, adult gamers create the next generation of gamers.

The messaging is fairly clear, and so is the name. The name is hardly catchy, but it does the trick. The word might be a little too common though. I can see that becoming an issue when search for games on Amazon for example. Nevertheless, it describes what the console can do well.

I also enjoy seeing that if there are gimmicks in the system, it was not put front and center. Motion controls were nowhere to be found, and second screen experiences being impossible means that all games will work without touch interfaces. This really emphasizes choice.

I may be wrong, but the commercial makes the screen appear bright enough to play under the sunlight. It was a huge issue with the 3DS.

It takes the one feature that people saw the most potential in with the Wii U (Off TV play) and expanded it. It cut the fat and focused on doing one thing well as opposed to spreading itself thin by doing an abundance of things poorly.

I have concerns about power and battery life, and I would like to know if there is a way to plug the system into a wall (e.g. charge it without the dock).

The mini detachable controllers, I will never use. I feel that most of the time, I will be utilizing the pro controller, even when on the go. I might only use the detachable bits on the system itself when I can’t sit down. I will likely never use them sideways. it doesn’t seem comfortable to me. Still, using the kickstand and the Pro controller sounds cool.

Being able to use it on any dock would give the possibility of having multiple docks for convenience and using it on multiple different displays. There are times when I cook I the kitchen and have to check how my pastries are coming along, so I could use the TV we have hooked in the kitchen while staying close.

Being able to do multiplayer anywhere sounds sub-optimal on a miniature screen, but I could see myself using the feature at a convention while waiting in a line. I think the utility is going to be situational, but it will see some use out of it. A good element is that you could potentially become a walking commercial. You make people play with you, anywhere, anytime, increasing exposure.

I want to have an enduring library of virtual console games, and until they announce that the games I will buy will stay forever, I will not use the service.

Analogue triggers are a big plus and will allow many types of games that couldn’t be made reliably before to be made. Plus, a GC virtual console could be possible.

Love the concept. It’s perfect for more on the go people like me. I’ve been almost exclusively been playing on my 3DS and Vita since I was rarely ever at home much. It sucked not being able to just take the console game with me. The NS solves this very problem

My concerns are many in comparison, however. What’s the battery life? Will Nintendo handle this properly this time? Are 3rd parties TRULY on board? Will it be able to stand alongside the likes of PS4/Xbone or PSNeo/Pro /Scorpio in terms of power? Will POKEMON be on it soon :D??? Price? This thing doesn’t look very portable(fitting into my pockets), It’s more of a handheld regardless of what Nintendo wants us to believe.. oh, and I’ll be calling it NS/NX anyway. Better than Wii U, still a lame name
Etc,etc – I could ramble all day

Me and my little bro got up at midnight to watch the reveal, both with work and school to go to later that morning, but I gotta say, it was worth it. Extremely happy and excited with what I saw.

We almost woke everyone else up when we saw Skyrim and the new Mario playing, the 3rd party company lineup is definitely something to be excited about, some of those devs I never thought I’d ever see on a Nintendo console.

Though I do have my concerns.
Price is a small concern, I’m getting one regardless, though the cheaper the better, after seeing the Splatoon Switch demo it’s likely me and my bro will be getting one each.
Durability, always a concern with handhelds, Nintendo is usually really good at this, though that tablet looks pretty thin.
And battery life, I’ve heard it’s rumoured to play for 3 hours, I think that be a little disappointing if true, I’d like a minimum of around 6 hrs personally, either that or a conformation of a usb charger cable.

The games launch lineup isn’t much of a concern to me, as I’m more excited to see it, than worried. Though I hope the eshop and VC are all just set up ready to go and we’re not waiting for games. And I hope finally VC will have GameCube games on it, though I think I’d prefer remasters for most GC games.

Extremely excited for the Switch, I can’t believe release is only 5 months away! And at least 2 months till we hear more about it.

Two thumbs up so far. It’s a simple concept that’s also unique and doesn’t confuse buyers.
