[Let’s Talk] What are you playing? – October 2016

Posted on October 2, 2016 by (@NE_Brian) in Let's Talk

A new month is here! We’ve just entered October, so that means we want to know what you’ve been playing. Have you started up something entirely new for the month? Or maybe you’re continuing something you started a little while back? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments below!

Highlights from last week’s topic: Your NX reveal predictions

I’m guessing that the NX will be revealed probably a week or two after the release of Paper Mario: Color Splash, just so that the game can have enough time that the NX reveal doesn’t affect the games sales. And for the NX release date, I’d say the same date that was leaked for the Breath of the Wild amiibo, March 4th. If not, hopefully it will release sometime in March.

For the launch lineup, I would love for either Dragon Quest X or XI to be launch titles or at least within the launch window. Pikmin 4 should be close enough to completion at this point to at least be a launch title for the NX. Maybe they’ll announce a new Mario title, maybe not a launch title but it’ll most likely be a 3D game. I hope that Nintendo also keeps their promise of putting their long ignored IPs to good use. Hopefully we do see a new Metroid and F-Zero on NX.

I also hope that third-party companies bring out the big guns for their launch games. Of course EA will have NBA and NFL, Ubisoft will have Just Dance 2017, and Activision will have Skylanders and Call of Duty. Those are just the obvious ones. Namco Bandai should make Tekken 7 NX Edition because their port of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on Wii U was fantastic and they should put some awesome exclusive Nintendo content into Tekken 7. I think it would be nice to also have Street Fighter V on NX, not to mention Capcom should make a new Mega Man for NX too.

I also think that indie developers should bring out the big guns as well. It would be awesome to see games like Rocket League, The Witness, Undertale, and maybe an NX version of Hyper Light Drifter since the Wii U version was cancelled.

My God, the possibilities are endless. I could go on and on speculating about what games will come out. And that’s the beauty of every new system launch. A new gaming system means new experiences to immerse yourself in. And maybe that’s what I love the most about video games.

This is what I hope/expect when it comes to hardware:

Handheld console with everything you’d expect from a handheld
– Additionally it has wifi (for streaming to the dock) and bluetooth (for connecting to your phone for GPS/internet)
– Detachable controls that turn it into a portable mini console for 2 players
– A bit stronger than Wii U

‘Dock’ that streams from/to the console
– Provides some extra processing power for higher resolutions and framerate (if that’s even possible)
– Outputs to the TV with HDMI
– Stores your downloaded games and if your handheld is full, it lets you quickly swap games
– Lets you connect extra controllers, LAN, USB, etc.
– Can stream video at 4K, lets you record and share your gameplay

As for software, I’m expecting BotW, a multiplayer party game, another big first party game and some pretty good Ubisoft surprises.

With the rumors about Nvidia, hybrid, detachable controllers, etc. I’m not even sure what to expect from it anymore. Nintendo will certainly churn out amazing games on the system for sure. Hell, we already have Zelda and Smash 4 rumored to be launch games. I just hope the hype for the system will not die after 2-3 years after release.

Cygnuss

I’m gonna try to give a “realistic” predicition. If it is an hybrid system (which I really expect it to be that), is going to be divisive. Internet is going to be a sandstorm and doom and gloom will be everywhere. People will be killing it. But despite that, the console will be be more successful than the Wii U becuase this time Nintendo would have to actually support it.

The power of the console is going to be in the in-between of the X1 and PS4. For this reason the console won’t have Western third party support, but Japanese developers will support it, but not as much as the Playstation systems. On the other hand, the indie developers are going to support it properly, due to it being a “more successful console”. So I can see the NX receiving “deliberate” exclusives like Runbow. Also, the handheld part is going to be nearly as powerful as the VIta, but no more than it. Most first-party titles are going to be on it, rather than the homeconsole part.

Given that Nintendo is porting BOTW to the system, it means that they have nothing to ready for it. Therefore, the 1 and half year of the system is going to be hell for early adopters. I kinda expect that the two of the early games to appear in the consle, after BOTW, are going to be Pikmin 4 (hopefully) and a proper Animal Crossing.

Well, preorders are going to be a marketing point to leverage the holiday season. Other than that, I’m expecting new opportunities for developers. If it is what I think it is, it’ll be a great way to share and promote games to a larger group of people.
