How to launch a Wii Channel or game from the SD Card Menu

1. Insert an SD Card into the SD Card slot on the front of the Wii console. Push it firmly into the slot until it clicks into place. (image)
2. Select the SD Card Menu icon from the Wii Menu to see the contents of the SD Card. The SD Card Menu icon is located in the bottom-left corner next to the “Wii” icon on the main Wii Menu. If an SD Card is not inserted, you will receive the error message, “Nothing is Inserted in the SD Card Slot.”
3. Select an item from the list of available games or Wii Channels and press the A Button to open the Start screen for that item.
4. Select “Start” to run the game or Wii Channel.

Please note:

* Game save data must be on the Wii console (not on the SD Card) in order to be recognized by its associated game.
* If you re-download an updated version of the Wii Channel or game from the Wii Shop Channel, the older version of the item saved to the SD Card may not run from the SD Card Menu.
* Some features of WiiConnect24 will not work with games or Wii Channels when they are launched from the SD Card Menu. These features will only work when the item is moved or copied into the Wii system memory.

What to do if you cannot launch your program
The SD Card Menu temporarily uses Wii system memory to start up a program. If there is insufficient memory to start a program you will be prompted to free up some space on your Wii with this message, “This channel could not be launched. Manage your Wii System Memory to launch this channel.” You can then choose how you want to manage your Wii’s memory.

* Free Up Memory Using “Auto Manage”
Choose from one of four possible ways to automatically move programs from the Wii System Memory to the SD Card to increase the amount of unused memory on the Wii.
o Channels on the Right Side of the Wii Menu – Move programs to the SD Card starting with those on the right side, or end, of the Wii Menu.
o Channels with Many Blocks – Move programs to the SD Card starting with those that use up the most memory blocks.
o Channels with Few Blocks – Move programs to the SD Card starting with those that use up the least memory blocks.
o Channels Not Used Lately (note: this option will not appear if there are very few programs that have not been used recently.) – Move programs to the SD Card starting with those not used for the longest period of time.

After you choose from one of these four options, select “Next” to begin moving data. The channel will automatically launch once the data has been moved. Note: if the SD Card has the same programs that are stored in the Wii system memory, the programs on the SD Card will be overwritten by the programs being moved from the system memory.

* Free Up Memory Using “Data Management”
The SD Card Menu will also allow you to switch to the Data Management tool that is normally available on the Wii. From the Data Management tool, you can manually select unused programs to move to the SD Card. You can also choose to delete any programs while in the Data Management tool.

Viewing contents on your SD Cards
When you select the SD Card Menu icon from the Wii Menu, the contents of the SD Card will appear. The SD Card Menu can hold up to 240 items, displaying 12 items at a time. Select the scroll icon with your Wii Remote to scroll to the next page. You can also scroll by pressing the + and – Buttons on the Wii Remote.

If there is no readable content on your SD Card, or if no SD Card is inserted, the SD Card Menu icon will be gray. Game Save Data and add-on content will not be displayed within the SD Card Menu. To manage this type of content, use the Wii’s Data Management tool. Learn more.
