Since the launch of My Nintendo, users have been able to collect two types of coins. Members have been able to collect Platinum Points as well as Gold Points. With both, they were valid for six months after you collected them, and would expire after that.

Good news: Nintendo has now made a change to My Nintendo, and Gold Coins will last longer than before. Going forward, they’ll be valid for 12 months.

Here’s the official notice from Nintendo:

Gold Points are now valid for 12 months after you collect them.

Up until now, both Gold Points and Platinum Points have been set to expire 6 months after you earn them. However, moving forward, your points will be valid for different lengths of time depending on what type of points they are.

Gold Points: Valid for 12 months after you collect them.

Platinum Points (all types): Valid for 6 months after you collect them.

Remember that when you redeem points for rewards, the points closest to expiring will automatically be used first. If you need to check the points you’ve collected, the points you’ve earned, or any points that have expired, be sure to take a look at “Points history” in the My Nintendo menu.
