I’m still playing the demo. I really like this spin off.

  • WTFISTHISSHIT?

The game is pretty amazing so far. Playing the demo, its definintely a buy for me but it still puzzles me why this flopped in Japan?

  • bakedapplepie

Ya this game is way more interesting than the regular series Monster Hunter to me, it’s surprising how good the demo is. Wish it was on the Switch though.

    • DiscoGentleman

      Same, same and same.
As much as mainline MH should be my jam on paper, it never is when I play it. Can’t get into it.
MHS, though, is so perfect for me. I’m in big trouble with this game.

  • Reggie

The demo was the first MH game I’ve played, and I’ve really enjoyed everything about it. The demo was a great idea on their part, especially with being able to transfer data. I’m sold.

Allow me to sell you on MH4U and MHGen as well then, cause both are great games in their own right.

Though finding people to play with online in both will be challenging on account of XX’s existence.

      • Reggie

I’m sorry, but the main series MH games do not appeal to me in the slightest.

Which is why I enjoyed Stories. It features the same world, but with a different style of gameplay.

        • Velen (Not WoW)

Not even World’s gameplay appeals to you? Cause I’d hate for Stories to be your only exposure.

Nothing’s more satisfying than coordinating with your friends to beat the ever loving hell out of a Monster.

          • Reggie

I’m just not interested in games where the sole purpose is to hunt monsters for side quests and nothing more. I don’t really see the point in that. And while main series MH technically isn’t a proper RPG, it has elements of action RPGs that are not my preferred forte.

Stories appeals to me because it is a traditional RPG that is story driven. Not to mention: Monster raising RPGs are among my favorites in rpg sub-genres, and I’m also a child at heart who finds the cartoony aesthetics pleasing.

This has been like…the second or third time now where I’ve faced some scrutiny over saying that Stories appeals to me more than the main series. If the MH fandom is like that in general, then I’m sorry, but that only turns me off from MH more. I like what I like, and I would appreciate it if people would respect that.

          • Busterblade

To each their own. The mainline MH games aren’t everyone’s forte, but Stories stands up very well in it’s own right, and perhaps they become their own series, who knows?

          • Reggie

Thank you. And I would like it if Stories could become its own spin-off series. But unfortunately because the game flopped in Japan, that doesn’t seem likely.

          • Busterblade

Well, Japan doesn’t constitute the entire world thankfully. Perhaps it still does good numbers in the West, and just favours release there instead.

          • Reggie

Capcom is a Japanese company though, so naturally they’re going to cater to the Japanese market first and foremost and be most in tune with it. The only reason we’re getting Stories in the west is because Nintendo is localizing it themselves. I really don’t think Stories’ performance in the west would make much of an impact to Capcom, especially when it’s not very likely that it will do well here on account of it being a “cutesy” spin-off and because World and XX have completely overshadowed it.

          • Busterblade

True, but Stories is quite different from the others, and I do believe it has it’s own legs to stand on. It depends on whether people are willing to give Monster Hunter as IP a chance, loose from it’s gameplay.

          • Reggie

It would be nice, but I don’t see it happening.

          • Busterblade

Yeah, I understand your thought process on that one. Capcom being quite unpredictable doesn’t help that either. Still, the game itself will be good at least.

          • Princess_Eevee9

Monster Hunter Stories also has an Anime, which is going well. And I like to think that it having an Anime that’s successful means that Capcom will plan on doing more with the series. Actually it just recently got Dubbed too, so must mean support for it is strong! I want more Spin-off games for this series too, Mystery Dungeons are always good.

          • Reggie

            Anime =/= game sales.

          • Princess_Eevee9

            Recognition potential?

          • Velen (Not WoW)

Um…. I’m not scrutinizing you for it man. Never did. I just was trying to get you into the mainline, but if that’s not your cup of tea, I’m not going to judge you for it.

          • Reggie

Maybe I was quick to be defensive there. Still, it’s what I’ve faced before.

  • DiscoGentleman

The demo is so good!!! I can’t believe how much I like it.

  • Princess_Eevee9

I’m am absolutely in love with the Demo, was already gonna Day 1 but didn’t think it would be this good! I love how there is also an Anime and that it’s Dubbed, which I’ll be binging once the game launches!
