Previewing BLOK DROP U’s upcoming update

In the very near future, BLOK DROP U will be receiving its first title update. While it won’t introduce any additional content, RCMADIAX has implemented a number of changes to improve upon the core experience.

I was recently given the opportunity to try out BLOK DROP U’s impending update. For some quick impressions, head past the break.

When first booting up BLOK DROP U’s new version, you’ll be presented with a notice stating that save data will be created on the system. This in itself is a noteworthy change compared to the original version.

You see, BLOK DROP U currently does not offer a save system of any sort. There’s no real way to continue your progress as of now. At start up, you’re always presented with a menu that lets you tackle three sets of levels (10 each) in a forced order, which is far from user-friendly. What does this mean exactly? Well, if you’re looking to play level 9, you’re going to need to clear all previous eight levels in the first set.

The introduction of BLOK DROP U’s save feature works in conjunction with the new level select functionality as well as the manner in which levels are completed. BLOK DROP U’s update brings about an overhauled menu so that players can tackle levels in any order they please – level sets are a thing of the past. After clearing a level, three options will be made available: save and continue, save and exit, or simply exit without saving. This is a major improvement over BLOK DROP U’s original version.

Less important but still notable is BLOK DROP U’s step-up in presentation. The visuals, while simple as always, are quite a bit better thanks to a reworked art style and inclusion of smaller details like a slight shadow effect for the blocks and blades. Additionally, sound effects have been changed for removing blocks and clearing a level.

In the end, BLOK DROP U’s update amounts to a new save system, menu select, and presentation enhancements. Do all of these changes add up to a better game? Certainly. BLOK DROP U’s new save system and level select are much welcome changes and make you wish that they were included in the original game.

If you weren’t a fan of BLOK DROP U to start out with, this update probably won’t sway your opinion. But for those who are fans, the game’s improvements make for a much better experience.
