details roundup

Bandai Namco has shared a ton of details about Tales of the World: Reve Unitia. You can find them rounded up below.

Story Prologue

– For as long as people have seen dreams in their sleep, there’s been a world that’s accumulated those dreams and taken shape from them
– World is known as Revaria
– Those who live in the world are known as the Lufres
– Lufres maintain balance in the world by purifying Vuur
– Vuur: the embodiment of people’s bad dreams and wavering hearts
– Things have started to change recently
– Vuur, which once had no physical form to call its own, has taken shape as a monster
– Only the Dream Guardians can face Vuur in its current state
– These are a group of powerful Lufres
– But without warning, every last Dream Guardian disappears without a trace
– The only Lufres remaining are young ones that still lack much strength
– They set out to summon people from The Awakened World in the hopes that they can find ones with the power to fight Vuur
– The Tales characters who end up being recruited as a result lose their memories of their respective worlds
– They still have their core beliefs and so they set out to take down a threat that poses danger to every world, not just Revaria
– Vuur continues to grow more powerful
– The young Lufres, otherwise known as Wako in their world, were left behind live in fear
– Taking matters into their own hands, they use what little power they have to try and summon Awakened Ones, but it ends in failure as their targets are spread out all over the world of Revaria, rather than just with them in their town
– One of the young Wako is Terun
– Terun leaves the town in order to try and find these Awakened Ones in spite of fear of Vuur
– While these fears are realized when Vuur tries to attack him, he’s saved in the nick of time by two of the ones he’s looking for, Asbel and Lloyd
– The two work with Terun and the others continue to gather more and more people who were summoned to Revalia as the work on undoing the danger that besieges the world

Nahato’s Storyline

– While Terun is meeting with Asbel and Lloyd, Nahato meets two more Tales characters summoned to Revalia, Yuri and Jade
– Worried about the fate of the Tales worlds in addition to Revalia, Nahato and company take up arms and fight
– Terun’s story otherwise unfolds from a different perspective altogether

Terun

– Terun: “Please, let met go with you all! I can do more than just project you all!”
– Youngest member of the Lufres
– Lacks in confidence and strength but makes up for with sheer kindness
– His dealings with the Awakened Ones result in him awakening to a strong resolve
– Terun normally resembles something akin the Tales series’ previous mascot characters, but in battle, he takes on the form of a human and fights alongside the other characters

Nahato

– “Then that makes two of us. I have something to protect as well. That’s all.”
– Strongest Dream Guardian among the Lufres
– Like a parent/sibling to Terun as the one who looks after him
– Nahato uses the power of Dream Silk to take on Vuur and like Terun has two different forms he uses depending on the situation and stands at 5’8” (173 cm.) when he’s in his fighting form

Asbel Lhant (Tales of Graces)

– “We can’t turn our backs on this problem, not when it affects our own worlds as well.”
– Young swordsman who ends up helping to save Terun in a forest
– Polite and serious, he’s always good about looking after others

Lloyd Irving (Tales of Symphonia)

– “What are you saying? Of course we’re all friends here!”
– Swordsman who wields two blades
– Helps Asbel save Terun
– While he can get fired up, Lloyd is fundamentally a nice person at heart

Natalia L.K. Lanvaldear (Tales of the Abyss)

– “It’s only natural that I’d help someone who’s hurt.”
– Comes from regal stock
– Natalia is an archer who’s more than willing to take up her bow to ensure justice is served

Yuri Lowell (Tales of Vesperia)

– “I’m not one to just stand and gawk while people are out their risking their neck. I’m going to go lend them a hand.”
– Yuri is deeply cynical of the world around him, choosing to operate under his own principles as a swordsman
– His sheer speed will have players’ heads spinning if they’re not careful

Jade Curtis (Tales of the Abyss)

– “Heh, you kids are just full of energy, aren’t you? Fine, you win. Shall I tag along then?”
– Mysterious man who’s highly proficient in both Artes and fighting with a spear
– Tends to wear a smile, but it’s hard to read what emotions really lie underneath it
– “I’m going, too! I want to help everyone else out!”
– Naïve and friendly on the outside, but has a strong willpower about her
– She mainly uses strong attack Artes, but is also fully capable of acting as a healer as well

A whole bunch of new Watch Dogs details (plus a few screenshots) are now available thanks to an extensive article published on GameSpot. We’ve rounded up the latest content below. You’ll find even more information and developer commentary over at GameSpot.

– Your phone is the primary tool for interacting with the game world
– The phone is also a thematic focal point int he story
– A team inside Ubisoft Montreal was created in 2009 to work on a new open world game
– Only thing they had to follow was to make it an open-city title
– Surveillance infrastructure ctOS extends far beyond cameras, controlling everything from traffic lights to steam vents
– Hack objects on the fly
– Trigger massive pileups at intersections
– Flee from the police or tap into the system’s crime prediction mechanism to stop crimes before they even happen
– One of creative director Jonathan Morin’s earliest presentations conveyed this structure through a single image: a finger hovering above a red object accompanied by the phrase “Control an entire city through the press of a button”
– Team spent time working on who this character was, what his ambitions were, and how far he was willing to sidestep ethical boundaries to get there
– Focus on surveillance soon came together with that initial fascination around smartphones to form the game’s profiling system
– This lets you tap into the city’s repository of personal records and surveillance data to form a quick impression of every single pedestrian in the city
– You’ll see details such as profession, salary, and Web browsing habits flash across the screen as you pass strangers on the sidewalk
– Can learn more about an interesting person by listening on phone calls and remotely hacking his or her text message logs
– This is all done through Aiden’s smartphone
– Watch Dogs is still very much an action game
– Guns to fire, cars to drive, and a city’s worth of criminals and heavily armed security guards to deal with
– Hacking remains a constant theme
– Will see a context-sensitive white outline drawing your attention to objects you can hack everywhere you go
– Ex: in a police chase, you might hack a drawbridge just as you pass over it in order to lose the cops on your tail
– Ex: if you’re sneaking into a ctOS facility, you might hack a window washer to elevate you up to a second-floor window before accessing the security camera network to get a feel for the guards’ patrol routes
– The Watch Dogs team worked hard to maintain believability within the ctOS fiction
– Consulted with Russian security firm Kaspersky Lab to ensure that none of the various hacks were too extravagant
– Team took creative liberties is the speed with which these hacks are done
– Mostly everything can be hacked with one button press
– AI system is both aggressive and a little bit unpredictable

– Each character has a slightly different playstyle
– This mainly pertains to their power
– Players can choose to putt as a Mii
– Miis can mirror the abilities of Mario characters, depending on their gear

– Can send emoticons to other players
– Game includes online competitions
– Players can simply set their rules, play a course and submit their score

“You also have the ability to join special communities that will have tournaments with special rule sets. People can really play the game however they want. Some people want to play Mario Golf with realistic courses, no items, basically really limit things to more of a traditional kind of golf setting. Other people want to have the craziest — all the items on, just completely bananas.”

– With Auto mode, you only need to choose a direction and use A (or the touch screen) to initiate and time a shot
– Can switch to Manual mode at any point, even between shots
– The initial swing in Manual mode brings in the standard three-button-press to initiate the swing, set power and then determine the accuracy

– Can also deliberately manipulate your shot to fade or draw

– Items are activated as a “special” shot type with various effects
– Bom-ombs prompt your ball to explode high into the air
– Fire flower will allow your ball to burn through trees
– Boomerang can add unlikely swerve

– Enhance your primary stats of Sweet Spot and Control, increase drive distance and play style of your Mii as well

– Castle Club has tips from characters, rooms to explore, tournaments/challenges
– Start in a building and eventually venture outside to where much of the action is to be found
– Early stages start with a “practice round” on one of three initial courses to set a handicap
– You’ll then enter tournaments and gradually progress to Championship rounds
– 18-hole round takes about 30-45 mins
– Game also includes challenges that cover drives, approach shots and putting at multiple difficulty levels, useful for accumulating coins and perfecting technique
