Update: Bandai Namco has just confirmed via Twitter that Dragon Ball Fusion will indeed launch on November 22 in North America – more than three weeks earlier than its original release date of December 13.

Original: Something strange is going on with Dragon Ball Fusions’ North American release date. Towards the end of last week, retailers started to update their listings, indicating that the game is launching within the next few days. Amazon and GameStop are both showing November 16 – yes, this Wednesday – while GameFly has it for Friday.

Both of these dates don’t make a whole lot of sense, as Bandai Namco’s games usually ship on Tuesdays. That’s why we shrugged it off and assumed those retailers simply made an error. However, a new listing has now appeared on the 3DS eShop with a November 22 release date. It would be a Tuesday, but still earlier than the previously-announced December 13 release date.

If I had to guess, Dragon Ball Fusions isn’t heading to stores this week. I’d say the eShop’s November 22 date is much more probable. Either way, we might be seeing Fusions sooner than we originally thought.

Bandai Namco is gearing up for the next Dragon Ball Fusions update in Japan. Once applied, players will have access to Trunks and Goku Black. The EX Fusions featuring EX Trunks (Trunks and Trunks from Super) plus Caroliblack (Broly and Goku Black) are being added as well.

Dragon Ball Fusions isn’t your typical Dragon Ball game. These days, especially in the west, the franchise is more connected with fighting. Fusions is much different in both its art style and approach to gameplay with a focus on the RPG genre.

Dragon Ball producer Masayuki Hirano recently spoke to GameReactor about what the developers set out to achieve with Fusions. About this, he explained:

“This game was mainly focusing on kids in Japan who liked Dragon Ball, and we noticed that there are a lot of kids who like for example Pokemon or Yo-kai Watch. These adventuring RPG aspects are really loved by kids, so that’s one of the reasons why we decided to create Dragon Ball Fusions. Another thing is that when you talk about a Dragon Ball game, it gives the player an impression that it’s a fighting game, so then we thought is there other ways to enjoy Dragon Ball games, so that’s how we came up with Dragon Ball Fusions.”

Dragon Ball Fusions is heading to North America on December 13 and February 2017 in Europe.

Bandai Namco announced today that an update coming to Dragon Ball: Fusions on November 2nd is going to add two characters from Dragon Ball Super: Trunks and Goku Black. Naturally, since this game is all about fusions, both of these characters will get special EX fusions: Trunks (from Super) can fuse with regular Trunks to form Trunks (EX), while Goku Black can fuse with Broly to form Karoly Black. Make sure to take a look at the gallery below:

Dragon Ball: Fusions has already been confirmed for a Western release, so it’ll be interesting to see how this update will be handled. Will it be included in the base game or released at a later date? Either way, we will keep you informed.

Update 2 (10/8): Dragon Ball Fusions is now up for pre-order on Amazon Canada; 20 percent discount for Prime members.

Update (9/23): Amazon pre-orders have been fixed, so Prime members can now get Dragon Ball Fusions for 20 percent off. Same goes for Best Buy GCU members. Also up on GameStop.

Original (9/21): Following several leaks, Bandai Namco has officially confirmed the localization of Dragon Ball Fusions. The game will be released in North America on December 13. In Europe, the game is coming in February.

Dragon Ball Fusions is an action-RPG that provides a mix of fighting, customization, and collecting elements. Fans can look forward to a roster with a ton of different characters between the Dragon Ball anime and movies. It’s possible to come up with combinations of powerful characters, and the game sports functionality so that you can use the 3DS camera to take pictures with friends and fuse them with Dragon Ball characters or trade special moves with nearby players. You’ll be able to take on an original story in Adventure mode as well as a Multiplayer Battle mode.
