Dragon Fantasy: Book I

Muteki ended up confirming Dragon Fantasy Book I and II for 3DS last year. The studio finally shared an update today, and also revealed that the two titles will be heading to another Nintendo system.

First, let’s talk about the big news. Dragon Fantasy Book I and II are now confirmed to be in development for Wii U alongside 3DS. The two RPGs will be released under the updated names “Dragon Fantasy: The Volumes of Westeria” and “Dragon Fantasy: The Black Tome of Ice”.

Muteki additionally announced today that Choice Provisions will be in charge of publishing duties for Dragon Fantasy: The Volumes of Westeria. The company will be handling things like dealing with rating boards while Muteki focuses on development.

The 3DS version of Dragon Fantasy: Book I was made official through an official announcement published by Muteki today.

The game will feature several additions/changes, including:

– Ogden now has allies so that he doesn’t have to grind by his lonesome
– Bottom screen gives players info such as a map, quest log, inventory screen, beastiary
– Improved inventory system with sorting and filtering
– Purchase multiple items at once
– 3D support

Random battles have also been removed from Dragon Fantasy: Book I – for the most part anyway. Battles are still random on the world map, but not in towns, caves, dungeons, or caverns. In these areas, monsters will appear on screen and will take a step each time the hero does. You can choose to face monsters on their own terms or even avoid them completely.

Dragon Fantasy: Book I is currently “in the final testing phases before submission”. You can find screenshots from the game above.

Earlier this year, Muteki confirmed its two Dragon Fantasy games for 3DS. Although there hasn’t been much news since January, you’ll be happy to know that development is progressing smoothly.

Muteki’s Adam Rippon told us that Dragon Fantasy: Book I “is coming along quite well” on 3DS. Currently, the team is working on performance improvements.

Dragon Fantasy is running at about 50 frames per second at the moment – just like the PS Vita version. However, Rippon wants it to be “a perfect 60FPS”.

Muteki hopes to talk about launch plans for Dragon Fantasy: Book I at PAX.

Now for a small update on Dragon Fantasy: Book II. It’s still planned for 3DS, though “it’s not quite as far along”. Book II will launch later down the road.

Rippon ended our communication by stating that both Dragon Fantasy titles “look and play extreeeeeeemely well on the 3DS. It’s like they were made for it!”

Muteki Corporation recently revealed to Nintendo Everything that it will soon be bringing Dragon Fantasy: Book I (as well as Book II) to the 3DS eShop. We spoke with creative director Adam Rippon to learn about what’s new in the 3DS release, whether or not we can expect more 3DS support from the studio in the future, and a whole lot more. Continue on below for our full discussion.

Nintendo Everything has received confirmation from Muteki Corporation that Dragon Fantasy: Book I as well as Dragon Fantasy: Book II are in the works for the 3DS.

Dragon Fantasy: Book I should be hitting the eShop sometime this spring. Book 2 will likely follow “as early as in the fall or winter,” according to the studio’s creative director Adam Rippon.

Dragon Fantasy: Book I previously landed on a number of platforms including the PS3, PS Vita, PC, and iOS. However, Nintendo’s handheld should end up receiving the definitive version. That’s because Muteki has made a bunch of changes/additions for the new release, such as the inclusion of 3D visuals, built-in maps of towns/dungeons, dual screen battles, the ability to turn off/on random battles, and more.

You can find a few exclusive screenshots from the 3DS version of Dragon Fantasy: Book I above. We’ll have more details about the game in an interview due to be published this weekend.
