Enlightened Games

The Song of Seven is the latest indie title that will no longer be coming to Wii U. However, rather than simply being cancelled due to the arrival of Switch, Enlightened Games seems to have encountered technical issues getting the game running properly on the console.

The developer did note in a Kickstarter update that they’ll “continue to work with Nintendo on the possibility of release on future Nintendo platforms with new hardware better aligned with our game engine.”

The full update reads:

“Firstly, we need to address the state of the union with Nintendo development. After more than a year of attempting to tweak, re-tweak, re-create, and optimize, we have run out of options for being able to make the game work on the Wii U console. This means we will be cancelling the game’s Wii U specific version, which we first thought of all of our Wii U backers before making this tough decision. We found that there is no feasible way to transition the game to that specific console without rebuilding the game from the ground up. Don’t fret, though, Nintendo faithful backers. We will continue to work with Nintendo on the possibility of release on future Nintendo platforms with new hardware better aligned with our game engine. We sincerely apologize in regards to our unforeseen obstacles, but there is a slight silver lining. In addition to releasing on the Playstation 4, we are currently working with Microsoft to add release on the Xbox One, with both versions releases slated in 2017, bringing you more options to play the game on.. If you chose to back with a Nintendo copy, but would like to choose a different copy of the game, we would be happy to send you a steam/drm free, or shoot you a copy for Xbox One/PS4 when released.”

There’s no date yet, but The Song of Seven: Chapter 1 should eventually make its way to Wii U.

Enlightened Games has produced a new trailer for The Song of Seven: Chapter 1, which is slated for Wii U. View the video below.

Enlightened Games released a new trailer for The Song of Seven: Chapter 1, which is due out on Wii U in early 2016. View it below.

The Song of Seven has managed to reach its funding goal over on Kickstarter. There was barely any time remaining in the project’s campaign, but donations surpassed the $8,000 mark a short while ago.

All Kickstarter funds will be used in the creation of The Song of Seven’s first chapter. Enlightened Games is planning several chapters, each of which “is meant to be the video game version of a short story, a quick, enjoyable digital romp that can be played in a dedicated day or a lazy weekend.” Combined together, “the chapters assemble a narrative that roams across a world of distinct cultures and intriguing lore with a story that can be enjoyed and appreciated by all ages.”

You can find a trailer for The Song of Seven below. We’ve also included a brief overview. Plenty of additional details are on the Kickstarter page here.

The Song of Seven spans an entire world and tells a story of forgotten celestial siblings, isolated villages, seafaring pirates, ghosts, monsters, leaders, artists, mystics, lovers, dancers, inventors, and the power of connections. Its game play hearkens back to old school point and click, inventory-based adventure/puzzle games but uses third person analog controls for a more updated, immersive feeling.

The Song of Seven: Chapter 1 is targeted for February 2016 on Wii U.

Back in September 2013, Enlightened Games opened a Kickstarter for “Bliss”. The project was described as “a fantasy puzzle adventure game where the player makes the powerful choice to take control of their own destiny to explore a sacred and mystical land full of physical challenges, inner discovery, and healing.”

Bliss unfortunately fell well short of its Kickstarter goal. However, Enlightened Games came back in full force last year and rebooted the project as “The Song of Seven”. The Song of Seven is “an evolved version of Bliss.” It features similar themes, goals, and visuals as Bliss, but has completely new gameplay, characters, environments, and story.

Nintendo fans will be pleased to hear that The Song of Seven was confirmed for Wii U this past November. It sounds like the first chapter will be launching before the end of this year. In the meantime, take a look at a pre-alpha video shared back in June below.
