In a recent interview with Gamerant.com, Eric Bright had a lot of positive things to say about the Switch. Bright, who is the the senior director of merchandising at GameStop, says that the Nintendo Switch is off to such a strong start that it could end up eclipsing the sales numbers the Wii achieved. Additionally, the console has seen some of the highest attach rates for software and accessories for any device “in a long time.”

“The Nintendo Switch is off to a start right now that it could possibly eclipse the Wii. Initial sales on this have been phenomenal. I can’t give straight numbers, but I can say we’re seeing one of the highest attach rates of software and accessories to a device that we’ve seen in a long time.”

GameStop stores will be selling Switch units once again by next Wednesday, the retailer has confirmed. It’s the standard system that goes for $299.99. You won’t be forced to purchase a bundle as is the case on GameStop’s website.

Eric Bright, senior director of merchandising for GameStop, noted in a statement:

“GameStop continues to see strong demand from customers who are looking to purchase the Nintendo Switch system. We are meeting this demand by securing additional systems as fast as we can to ensure customers are able to purchase this innovative gaming technology. The customer enthusiasm and response we have seen so far has been incredible as we continue to sell through our supply of systems. We strongly suggest any customer who is still looking to purchase a Nintendo Switch, visit one of our stores as soon as they can. This new allotment will go fast!”

If you’re looking to secure a Switch, be sure to check with your local store regularly. Consoles will likely sell out quickly.

How Switch will do in the long run remains to be seen. That being said, early indications from GameStop point to the system having a successful launch.

Eric Bright, the retailer’s senior director of merchandising, shared a few comments about Switch’s performance on launch day. According to Bright, Switch saw “one of the strongest and most successful gaming console launches for GameStop in the last several years.” He also noted how many stores “were packed with customers”, with some fans lining up early to nab a Switch for themselves.

Bright said:

“Stores across the country last night were packed with customers who couldn’t wait to get their hands on the brand new Nintendo Switch. We even had customers lining up as early as yesterday morning so that they could be one of the lucky ones to score one of the additional units for our walk-in customers. This is one of the strongest and most successful gaming console launches for GameStop in the last several years. For those fans who are still looking for the Nintendo Switch, don’t worry–we’re getting more. And, we’re pretty sure that there are a lot of gaming fans who pulled all-nighters last night playing their new Switch, and who also called in sick to work today with ‘game-fluenza’ just to stay home and play even more.”

GameStop is now taking pre-orders for the Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition. You can secure one for yourself right here. Keep in mind that it’s already sold out at both Amazon and Best Buy.

Without a Switch pre-order, it will be hard to buy one on launch day for sure. However, in a news release GameStop said that they will have a ‘limited supply’ of  Switch units for customers that enter the store and don’t have a pre-order.

“Customers who were not able to pre-order the system are encouraged to attend GameStop’s midnight launch events.”

We all know what happened with the NES Classic and how few units ended up on sale at video game stores around the world. So maybe this time it will be relatively possible to grab a Switch without having it pre-ordered online beforehand.

Additionally, GameStop have also announced that they will sell only two Switch bundles:

  • Bundle 1: Nintendo Switch + Switch Pro Controller + The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – $429.99
  • Bundle 2: Bundle 1 + Piggyback’s official guide to Breath of the Wild – $454.99

We don’t know when these bundles will be up on their website, but we’ll update with any new information.
