Kotaku has obtained documents from GameStop that reveal imminent plans to revamp the retailer’s trade-in service.

Customers won’t need to delegate money towards pre-orders/promotions in order to get the most value any longer. Instead, you’ll instead be able to take advantage of flat rates. The only variations will be for GameStop Power Up Rewards members and whether you decide to receive cash instead of store credit.

GameStop’s “average base value” of games will increase by 20 percent.

Check out this excerpt from one of the GameStop documents:

“By eliminating the higher end price of products we buy and raising the lower end, we are able to raise the overall value the customers will receive. With this program, we will not have complex multi-tiered trade promotions for the associates to remember and less math for the customer to understand what they are getting for their games.”

Another excerpt details how GameStop will be asking its employees to interact with consumers with regard to trade-ins, and how they’ll be looking to use the terms “buy” and “sell” instead:

GameSpot stores in Philadelphia are now fingerprinting customers who trade in games. The records are stored in a database to help law enforcement track down thieves who fence stolen goods.

There is a law in place that makes this possible, though GameStop isn’t actually forced to abide by the pawnbroker’s ordinance. Customers don’t seem too pleased with the retailer’s requirement, so it will be interesting to see how long this continues.

Coming from Nat Geo magazine, it looks like 2 more special events are set to be released in Pokemon X and Y in North America. First, from August 13th – September 17th, a Heracross or Pinsir will be available for download to either an X or Y cart through  the Internet Mystery Gift. Additionally, from August 18th – 31st at participating Gamestop stores, you’ll be able to receive a special code for a Hercronite or Pinsirite Mega Stone.

The only Nintendo-related items I spot here are rock candy controllers for Wii U. Definitely one of the worst weeks we’ve seen thus year!

GameStop has a pair of 3DS games on sale. Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask are both $10 each. This seems to be online-only, but we’ll let you know if we hear otherwise.

A couple of new deals are worth bringing to your attention. First, GameStop has Shin Megami Tensei IV for $19.99. And on the opposite end of the spectrum, you can grab the Fit Meter for use with Wii Fit U on Amazon for $9.99. The latter deal seems to be only valid through today.
