Gray Fin Studios pushed out Dual Core’s first update in North America today. The patch adds off-TV play, new character upgrade options (speed/agility can now be upgraded), and fixes a number of bugs.

Those in Europe have had access to the first update since launch, as it was built in from the start.

Gray Fin Studios says that the second Dual Core update is already in the works as well.

Dual Core released on the North American Wii U eShop last Thursday, but Gray Fin Studios isn’t done with the game yet. The indie developer talked a bit about what’s in store during a Reddit AMA today.

The first thing lined up for Dual Core is an update, which will “address a few bugs, and balance some difficulty issues.” Features such as off-TV play, more controller options, and online leaderboards are also “likely” for the future. New modes/levels haven’t been ruled out either, but “it really depends on how well the game doe”.

Next week, Dual Core from Gray Fin Studios will be released on the Wii U eShop. It’ll be out on May 26 in North America with the European version following a bit later (likely a few weeks).

Here’s an overview of the game:

Dual Core is a vibrant, futuristic, “twin-stick” style, shooter, with a strong focus on local co-op multiplayer.

It’s 2147 and the human colony on Europa has suffered a terrible fate. Rebooting after hibernation, two super-intelligent AI cores awake to find themselves installed within a couple of old security drones. Their attempts to uncover what occurred may end up becoming a lower priority than merely surviving…

Lots of robots, lots of lasers, lots of aliens, lots of explosions! The numerous retro arcade influences are front and center, but spiced up with a colorful modern style, a generous helping of sci-fi intrigue, and a dash of RPG ELEMENTS!

We also have this trailer:

Gray Fin Studios has been working on Dual Core for quite awhile – over three years actually. It was mostly a one-man project from the start of development to the finish line.

Gray Fin Studios’ twin-stick shooter “Dual Core” should be on the Wii U eShop soon. Development is complete, and it will be submitted to Nintendo for review soon. We should be getting it in February or March.

Gray Fin Studios shares the following information about its indie title:

Dual Core is a vibrant, futuristic, “twin-stick” style, shooter, with a strong focus on local co-op multiplayer (up to 4 players). Lots of robots, lots of lasers, lots of aliens, lots of explosions! The numerous retro arcade influences are front and center, but spiced up with a colorful modern style, a generous helping of sci-fi intrigue, and a dash of RPG ELEMENTS! This isn’t an arena shooter (though there is an arena-style arcade mode); there’s a full story mode with a ton of handcrafted levels to explore, and battle through.

Dual Core has been in development for several years now, and originally was conceived as a mobile/tablet game – however, somewhere along the line, I realized that very few of my favorite games were actually on mobile devices, *most* of them were in fact, on the Wii U, and usually because of the local multiplayer. So I decided to trust my instincts and that became the focus – our goal is to get players having a blast, working together, laughing, and (occasionally) yelling at the each other! One of my fondest gaming memories was playing co-op Gauntlet as a kid, and that’s still a strong influence today.

But it’s not just multiplayer – even in single player, you don’t play alone; your robot buddy “Corby” sticks with you, and battles by your side through the whole game. So in a way, it’s co-op multiplayer, even when it’s not.
