Namco

Bandai Namco have released a lengthy new trailer for Monolith Soft’s upcoming RPG, Project X Zone 2: Brave New World. Unfortunately this trailer doesn’t reveal any unannounced characters, but it should satisfy those who wanted to see some of the newcomers and new systems in action. It also gives a brief look at the bonuses included with the limited “Original Game Sound Edition” like the new version of Legend of the Valkyrie starring Namco X Capcom’s Xiaomu.

Part of the appeal of Super Smash Bros. to me is the history behind it all. With their large cast of characters, range of collectibles and obscure music picks, I always seem to be discovering new games with each installment. The original game introduced me to Earthbound, while Melee first brought Fire Emblem to my attention. This new Smash Bros.’ cast of newcomers are largely from games released in the last few years, but what I find interesting how Namco-Bandai’s involvement in development resulted in Namco’s history finding a way into the game.

Pac-Man is one of my favourite characters to play as in the new Super Smash Bros. and it’s partially due to his “Namco Roulette” taunt. This taunt involves Pac-Man summoning a bunch of old Namco sprites from the company’s golden age for a quick cameo, but there’s no trophies or anything to give context to these characters. With that in mind, let’s look at all these Namco icons as we take either a trip down memory lane. Namco have a legacy of creating incredible arcade titles that still persists to this day –I’ve been hooked on Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. Full Boost lately- and it’s great to see it represented in Smash Bros. in some form. So let’s start by traveling thirty-five years back in time…

Today Bandai Namco announced that those looking to pick up One Piece: Unlimited World Red on release day will be treated to some unique content:

– Exclusive Costumes: 10 outfits – Luffy Strong World Outfit & the Anniversary Pack with 9 outfits commemorating Japan’s 15th anniversary of the One Piece animated series.

– A unique quest where the 2 brothers are re-united: “Flame Fist & Straw Hat”

Additionally, they’ve also released some further information about the game, specifically about a newly announced Battle Coliseum Mode:

A total of 20 characters will be playable in this arena, among them: Fujitora, “Flame Fist” Ace D. Portgas, Crocodile, the stunning Empress Boa Hancock, the whole Straw-Hat crew etc.! Players will be able to select their favourite character to get in the heated brawl against most of the fearsome bosses ONE PIECE universe got in its pocket!

The game is expected to hit Europe and Australia on June 27th for PS3, Vita, 3DS and Wii U. In the meantime, you can check out some art and screenshots below.
