One Piece: Unlimited World Red

The new versions of One Piece: Unlimited World Red came out in Japan last week. In case you missed the Media Create charts, here’s a look at how they performed:

One Piece Unlimited World: Red (PS3) – 18,026
One Piece Unlimited World: Red (PSV) – 10,348
One Piece Unlimited World: Red (Wii U) – 4,209

One Piece: Unlimited World Red originally arrived in Japan on 3DS last year and sold 84,000 units in its first week. This version actually saw a small boost according to Media Create, which could be at least partially attributed to the fact that it received the new content as free DLC the same week. In total, One Piece: Unlimited World Red’s sales on 3DS stand at 248,000 units.

Bandai Namco recently confirmed that One Piece: Unlimited World Red will be receiving the “Day 1” Edition content on Wii U in North America. Some believed this was a sign that a small retail release would be planned as well.

That’s not actually the case though. Bandai Namco’s J. Kartje said on Twitter recently that Unlimited World Red will still be digital-only on Wii U in the states, but players will still be able to access the “Day 1” bonuses at launch.

He said:

Thanks to Jake for the tip.

Bandai Namco is releasing One Piece: Unlimited World Red in North America as a retail product on all platforms but Wii U. Despite this, it sounds like Wii U will be receiving the “Day 1 Edition” content, which includes original costumes and a new quest.

Bandai Namco told fans on Twitter last week:

Could this be a sign that Bandai Namco is planning some sort of retail release for Unlimited World Red in North America after all? Maybe as a limited run?
