Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs

3DS won’t be the only platform where Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs will be offered. In a Kickstarter post today, the team confirmed that new platforms are in the mix, including Switch. JoshProd is on board as a new partner, and it sounds like the company will be publishing the game at retail.

3DS is indeed still a part of the plan. However, on that platform, Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs will be digital only.

Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs will be appearing at Gamescom 2017 this week, so we may be seeing more of the game in just a few days.

A new work-in-progress video was recently shown for Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs, which as far as we know, is still planned for 3DS. It gives a look at the train mission. Have a look below.

Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs was successfully funded on Kickstarter last year. As a result, the team promised a 3DS version. There’s been relatively little news since, but a new video was shared today showing off progress made thus far.

View the video below. Note that it’s a work in progress look at the first part of mission 1, and the final game will have new music.

Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs managed to reach its Kickstarter goal today having raised over $75,000. The game’s development is now assured, and we can officially say that the title will be made for 3DS.

Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs, as you would expect, is based on the original 1986 series. It features run’n’gun shoot-’em-up gameplay in a 2D 16-bit style.

There’s plenty of additional information on the Kickstarter page here. You can also watch the original campaign video below.

A Kickstarter launched today for an officially licensed game based on the classic 1980’s anime series Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs. The game is pitched as an “action packed 16-bit 2D space western shoot-em’ up,” and will be released for 3DS, PC, Mac, and Linux.

The developers are Team Saber Rider, a collection of games industry veterans who appear to have come together specifically for this project.

As we heard last week, Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs is still in the works. Developer Chris Strauss has since shared a concrete update about the game and why it’s taken so long to bring out.

It’s important to note that Firehazard Studio is no more. The group simply became known as the “Saber Rider Game Team” after encountering “some problems”.

Strauss told Siliconera:

“We had some mayor hurdles to take on. There where some problems… not on our side, and i cant say much about it, but they affected us very much. We had to put development on hold for a long time because of this.”

Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs has been in development for all this time, but progress slowed and it was unclear if the game would ever finish. Now the team is on track and the goal is to release Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs next year – first on PC and then other platforms, like the 3DS (hopefully anyway). A Kickstarter is also something that the team is considering for funding.

Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs was announced for 3DS way back in September 2010. Even though there’s been silence from developer Firehazard, it’s still in the works. Saber Rider’s blog is updated every now and then, and there’s even a new video posted today which shows the finalized model for Ramrod.
