Retailer listings are indicating that the physical version of Shovel Knight has been delayed. Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop are now listing the game for November 3 in North America. An October 13 release date had been previously announced.

Of course, we don’t have an official confirmation that Shovel Knight’s physical version has been delayed. If we hear anything from Yacht Club Games, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Thanks to Jared for the tip.

Yacht Club Games has revealed that Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows will launch on September 17. This applies to both Wii U and 3DS, and it’s apparently for all regions where the game is available.

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows adds Plague Knight’s adventure. Additionally, players can take on the new Challenge Mode.

You’ll need to clear the game as Shovel Knight before Plague Knight’s campaign unlocks. However, developer Yacht Club Games did mention in a blog update today that a special code will be shared to unlock it from the get-go.

Update (9/8): Shovel Knight was raised to $25 on Amazon for a short time, but both versions are back down to $20.

Original (8/29): The retail version of Shovel Knight is seeing a slight price increase. It was originally going for $20, but it’s now being bumped up to $25.

There is at least a very good reason for the change in price. It turns out that the packaged edition will now include a soundtrack.

Amazon seems to be one of the few retailers left with pre-orders at $20. If you’re interested, put in a reservation here.

We heard last week that Yacht Club Games will be entirely responsible for the Shovel Knight amiibo. Nintendo is licensing the technology, but it’s pretty much up to the studio to get the figure into consumers’ hands.

This is something that Yacht Club Games reiterated to Destructoid at PAX Prime 2015. He additionally revealed that the Shovel Knight amiibo will be produced in the same factory as Disney Infinity figures.

Velasco said:

“We’re basically licensing the amiibo technology from Nintendo, and they’ve been overseeing it every step of the way. From the design, to how the amiibo functions in the game, to making sure that it was all just perfect in every way.”

“But we’re the ones that are dealing with the manufacturing and distribution, we’re the ones that are talking with the toy and sculpture people. Even things like the packaging.”

The Shovel Knight amiibo, which was leaked yesterday through retailer listings, has now been officially confirmed. An announcement was just made during a presentation being held at Nindies@Night.

Polygon reports that Yacht Club will be selling the figure on its own. It’s the first licensed amiibo, and Nintendo will promote the Shovel Knight figure “in line at retail” along with the other figures”.

The Shovel Knight amiibo will unlock unique content in the Wii U and 3DS games. On Wii U, the figure provides a co-op mode, and a challenge mode on both platforms.

Nintendo’s Damon Baker also teased, “There will be more Yacht Club and Shovel Knight content coming to Nintendo platforms in the future”.

The Shovel Knight amiibo will be compatible with all future Yacht Club titles on Nintendo systems.
