The Game Awards 2016

AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) and Pokemon Uranium were both nominated as “Best Fan Creation” for The Game Awards 2016. Strangely, both are now missing. Brutal Doom 64 and Enderal: The Shards of Order are now the only two projects remaining in the category.

Given how AM2R and Pokemon Uranium were both Nintendo-made fan creations, the big N may have played a role in their removal from The Game Awards. The company went after both pretty heavily earlier this year.

The Game Awards 2016 are just a few weeks away, and now we know the full set of nominees across various categories. Several Nintendo-related titles are up for consideration, including Fire Emblem Fates as “Best Mobile/Handheld Game” as well as “Best Strategy Game”. Zelda: Breath of the Wild is also nominated for “Most Anticipated Game”.

Head past the break for the lineup of categories that include Nintendo games. The entire lineup is on the official site here.

Geoff Keighley, the man behind The Game Awards, made it pretty clear that we’d be seeing the show return this year. We didn’t know when it’d take place, but December was always a safe bet based on prior events.

A banner shown outside the doors of E3 now reveals a specific date. The Game Awards 2016 will take place on December 1. This summer, we’ll be getting more details.

Keighley will also be hosting a new gaming awards initiative later in the year. The Kids’ Game Awards are set for October, and Nintendo is on the advisory board.
