To celebrate the release of The Wonderful 101’s soundtrack, the Platinum Games blog has been updated with an article from the composers of some of their major franchises. Here’s an excerpt for the piece and as always you can find the link to the full entry here:

Hitomi Kurokawa

Hello everyone, my name is Kurokawa. The soundtrack for The Wonderful 101, the first game I worked on, will be available starting today! I’m speechless! When you spend over a year working on something, you really get emotionally attached. I got really excited when I heard it was going to get a digital release!

The other day I went back and listened to all 127 tracks…wow, that sure is a lot of music. Intense too, especially the second half.

The theme phrase is used in over half the songs, so it is a lot of fun to see how it has been arranged in its various iterations. Before long you’ll be spotting that theme phrase like a champ. To both fans of the game and those of you who have not yet had a chance to play it, I hope you enjoy the music we made and, as you listen, find yourself immersed in the heroic world of The Wonderful 101!

Nintendo announced today that Super Smash Bros. for 3DS is now the 4th game in the 3DS library to ship over a million units in its first week in Japan, after Monster Hunter 4, Pokemon X/Y and Youkai Watch 2. This number includes digital copies and though the wording in the PR report was a little ambiguous as to units sold/shipped, we can assume the number of units sold was quite close to this figure.

Sakurai eases up on the feature talk today and instead opts for a helpful gameplay tip for players:

With the release of the 3DS version in Japan, Sakurai also took some time to clarify how screenshots will be handled going forward:

Announcement: Originally, the pic of the day was only supposed to continue for about two months, but I’ve ended up posting pictures until even today. The 3DS version has already been released in Japan, so I would like to talk about how future posts will be handled.

First, I will not talk about hidden features until the game is released overseas. On the other hand, I definitely will talk about them after the game is released abroad.

In addition, I am planning to continue making posts at least until the Wii U version is released. I haven’t decided if I’ll go by the Japanese version release or the release of versions abroad, but the point is that I’ll continue posting for a little bit longer.

Pic of the day won’t focus on introducing new information anymore in the near future, but I hope to entertain you with interesting and funny photos like I originally intended to. Thanks.

Smash is officially out in Japan and today Sakurai talks a little bit about some features that will be prevalent when the game is out worldwide:

He continues, reminding us to connect online in case of any potential updates:

Even if you don’t want to be spoiled, it might be wise to select the Online option at least once before you start the game. Your Global Smash Power won’t appear until the first time you connect to the internet. Not only that, but there could potentially be a patch available that can resolve potential issues, like the one being released now for the Japanese version of the game. For the package version, updates can be pre-downloaded to your system even before you purchase the game, so make sure you look out for them.

It looks like retail version of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS will require a day-1 patch adding an additional feature to the game. The patch adds a new mode to online play called Conquest mode, which occasionally will trigger during a game and adds additional weight to the result of said match. Winning will add points to a tally that certain characters, and at the end of a certain period those points will be tallied and players associated with the winning character receive a prize.

A few more Mega Evolutions have been revealed in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire through the latest issue of CoroCoro magazine. Mega Gallade, Mega Sharpedo and Mega Camerupt have all been confirmed. Mega Sharpedo has the Strong Jaw ability and Mega Camerupt has the Sheer Force ability. It’s looking like the game’s signature legendaries, Primal Kyogre and Primall Groudon will also have new abilities with Kyogre spouting the brand new Land of Beginnings and Groudon with Land of Endings. Both will trigger an effect known as Strong Rain and Strong Sunlight though it’s unknown what implication this will have on gameplay.
