New Super Mario Bros. U, much like its handheld counterpart, will be receiving downloadable content. The latest Iwata Asks confirms that additional courses are planned for the game:

Tezuka: Yes. We also are planning additional courses.

Iwata: As with New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the Nintendo 3DS, you’re talking about the additional courses.

Tezuka: Yes. We’re trying to think of ways of play that are different from New Super Mario Bros. 2, but we haven’t made anything yet! (laughs)

Iwata: Right, rather than distributing content that’s premade at a later date, you’re going to start working on it now.

Iwamoto: Yes. The mechanism for adding courses is already there, so please stand by for an update on what they’ll be like.

Nintendo first introduced DLC for the Mario franchise with New Super Mario Bros. 2 on 3DS. “U” will be the first console Mario with DLC courses.

GameStop is reporting a software tie-in ratio for Wii U that is much higher than its predecessor.

At the moment, GameStop has recorded 1.2 million pre-orders for Wii U games. The retailer was given 500,000 units of allocated console stock, which saw sell-outs very soon after consumers could begin forking over money for the system.

Based on the reported figures, GameStop is seeing a tie ratio of 2.4 games for every Wii U console. The statistic is double the amount Wii experienced as its launch was approaching back in 2006.

GameStop said pre-orders have been strong for New Super Mario Bros. U, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, ZombiU, Assassin’s Creed III, and Scribblenauts Unlimited.
