Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

In a preview interview with V Jump Play, Capcom discussed how the team went about selecting monsters for Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.

Here’s an excerpt we translated from the discussion:

How did you choose which monsters to include in the game?

The core mechanic of the game is to train monsters, so the key was to include as many as possible.

We focused on adding existing monsters rather than making new ones, notably popular monsters from World, so players can journey alongside their favorites from the series. We chose monsters based on not just how strong they are, but ensured some easier monsters are available at the beginning of the game to obtain a good balance.

Monster Hunter Stories 2 doesn’t appear to include monsters from Rise in the base game. However, it was just announced this month that the Palamute will be added as a Monster in the first free update, which is planned for July 15.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin releases for Switch on July 9. You can see what Capcom had to say about the game’s origins and making the title for Switch here.
