Rumors

There have been a bunch of rumors lately surrounding new Nintendo hardware over the past few weeks. One employee from a major publisher even went as far as to say that Nintendo might unveil a new platform at the Game Developer’s Conference, which will be taking place in just a few weeks.

Now rumor has it that Nintendo has started sending development kits for their next DS system. These kits have, apparently, been received by numerous studios already. Additionally, if further speculation is to be believed, the company may start selling the hardware before the end of 2010. Nintendo declined to comment about the latest batch of rumors, but perhaps the DS 2 will be officially announced at GDC or E3 if the company intends to release the system this year.

Quiz Magic Academy DS ~Futatsu no Jikuuseki~ (DS) – 24k (32%)
Sacred 2 (PS3) – 19k (83%)
Zangeki no Reginleiv (Wii) – 17k (52%)
Tennis no Oujisama ~More Sweet Edition~ (DS) – 16k (65%)

Sacred 2 (360) – 15k (87%)
Dragon Ball DS 2 (DS) – 11k (17%)
Lupin the 3rd: Shijou Saidai no Tounousen (DS) – 7k (40%)

SOCOM Portable (PSP) – 5k (36%)
Madworld (Wii) – 5k (25%)

There hasn’t been a first day sales leak in awhile, and I can’t confirm that these numbers are 100% correct. None of them are too surprising, though, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they were the real deal.

[PS3] MAG ~150K
[PS3] Darksiders ~130K
[360] Bayonetta ~100K
[PS3] Bayonetta ~60K
[Wii] Tatsunoko vs. Capcom ~50K
[Wii] No More Heroes 2 ~25K

[All] Dark Void – 22K

These figures are not confirmed, but they do look like they are fairly accurate. EEDAR recently shared the news that No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle sold about 30,000 units in its first week. Based on the official data released by the NPD as well as the top 20 rankings we posted today, the numbers above don’t seem to be too far off. If they are true, I think that most Wii owners would agree that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is off to a pretty good start.

Reader Zelos has sent a bunch of information our way regarding Nintendo’s rumored platform announcement at GDC. For those who missed out on the original story, there was some unconfirmed speculation earlier this week from “an employee at a major international publisher” that Nintendo has a platform announcement in store for GDC. Now the latest news is that Ubisoft and THQ might be hinting at that same revelation next month. I’ll let Zelos explain…

“I’m a member of the Dutch website www.Wii-DS.nl (I’m sure you’ve heard about them before: they’re the biggest Nintendo-website in the Benelux and often come up with exclusive news like European releasedates and screenshots. They’ve had exclusives like the PAL-releasedate of Mario Kart Wii and Fire Emblem DS and they had the first exclusive screenshots from Excitebots…something remarkably was posted on their forum today. The Ubisoft Benelux Brand Manager named Leon Winkler, registered himself a while ago on the Wii-DS.nl forum to answer questions about Red Steel 2 personally. After a while, the questions were also related to other game-stuff and right after the presented rumor of Nintendo’s next platform, the following question came up on the forum, in Dutch:

“Oh en Leon heb je al gehoord van de sappige roddel dat Nintendo tijden GDC 2010 een “nieuw platform” gaat aankondigen? DS2 lijkt me niet logisch aangezien de DSI XL dan net op de markt is. De meeste tekenen gaan naar een revamp van de Wii (WiiHD anyone?). Schijnt gelekt te zijn door een “medewerker van een grote internationale publisher”, ben jij die medewerker toevallig Leon?”

The literal translation:

This is one of the strangest rumors I’ve ever lately. NGamer has posted some messages on their Twitter account claiming Sonic will be playable in Super Mario Galaxy 2. That speculation apparently comes “from a trusted source.” NGamer also said that Sonic will have his own levels in the Green Hill Galaxy. This definitely seems fake to me, but then again, stranger things have happened.

“We’ve just had some shocking news from an inside source at Nintendo: Sonic will be a playable character in Mario Galaxy 2! Wha?…More teasing from our insider: Sonic levels will be in ‘Green Hill Galaxy’…”

This information comes from an employee at a major international publisher…

“Just heard a rumour that you may be interested in: Nintendo are going to announce a new platform at GDC. Some devs have already started work on it.”

The insider didn’t say whether the “new platform” is a handheld or console device. Also, while the insider is positive that the platform exists, he isn’t sure if Nintendo will choose to unveil it at GDC or if they will save it for another venue, such as E3.

Update: As expected, the screenshots are indeed fake (thanks Caelum!). Case closed!

Please know that I think the screenshots below are fake. I don’t want to mislead anyone into thinking that the images are real or that they even have a strong possibility of being real. I just don’t think it’s likely that they are real. With that said, before I get flooded with emails about this, I thought I might as well share the shots with you guys. The images have been popping up on numerous forums, but just make sure you don’t take the images too seriously!

Rumor: Zelda Wii details

Posted on 14 years ago by (@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Wii | 6 Comments

I’ll just say right off the bat that I don’t believe the information below has a good chance of being true, which is because the leak comes from 2ch. The community has been right with some things in the past, but more often than not, they aren’t and news is often untrue, fabricated, or is a joke. Also, how often is it that a leak comes from Nintendo? That said, some of you are probably dying to hear about some Zelda speculation (like me), which is why I’ve posted the questionable details below. Just keep in mind that they might not be true.

– Like Aonuma has said, the pacing of the game will be different than other Zelda titles (dungeon to field, dungeon to field)
– You decide whether to play with Link’s right hand or left hand
– Gameplay, basic game mechanics are almost finished
– Story/characters are being polished
– Innkeeper’s son looks up to Link
– Girl found in the art is not the Master Sword, Master Sword may not be in the game
– Girl’s name could be Adelle, Adella, or Aderu
– Girl is not with you for the full adventure like Midna
– Face of Adelle/Adella/Aderu in the art isn’t her real face
– Link’s sword will have unlockable abilities, Adelle communicates through the sword
– Epona will be in the game with horseback combat, Epona avoids obstacles automatically
– This Link may be The Hero of Time
– Time travel is important
– Game may not take place in Hyrule

A few days ago, a countdown was discovered on Platinum Games’ Japanese website. There has been much speculation that the company could be ready to unveil Shinji Mikami’s game, which has been in development since 2008. The countdown seemed to point to an unveiling in just a few days (or perhaps earlier if there were to be a news leak from Famitsu), although it looks like that is no longer the case. The official Platinum Games site now indicates that the countdown will expire in 27 days, that is unless the page is experiencing some sort of glitch at the moment. It is possible, however, that Platinum Games may simply need to wait a little bit longer before making an announcement.

A few months ago, Shigeru Miyamoto said that Super Mario Galaxy 2 could have shipped to stores this year. However, Nintendo opted to release New Super Mario Bros. Wii instead. So while it’s a definite that Galaxy 2 will be released next year, it’s just a matter of when.

Well, if the latest rumor is to be believed, the game will be out in Europe in late August 2010. Shigeru Miyamoto told GameTrailers TV back in November that development was nearly finished, so would Nintendo really wait that long to launch the title?
