Santa Ana, CA – NIS America announced today that they are working together with Nicalis, Inc. to develop an all new action game, Cave Story 3D for the Nintendo 3DS™.
“I feel great possibilities working with Nicalis. They’re both skilled and dedicated with making no compromises. I think fans of the original Cave Story will be pleased with this latest incarnation.” said NIS America Producer Jack Niida. ”Also through this partnership, we would like to bring new life to the legendary game and make it accessible to a new range of audiences.”

Since its foundation in 2003, NIS America has operated under the philosophy of “entertainment for all,” and brought games that satisfy its many customers. NIS America introduced its first video game Phantom Brave in 2004, and since then have been constantly releasing multiple video games and anime. Now the company plans to introduce its first 3D title in 2011.
About Cave Story 3D

This information comes from an IGN article, which claims that gamers will have access to the 3DS’ Virtual Console at launch…

“It’s important to note that some of these features, most notably the Virtual Console/e-Shop idea, will not be available out of the box, but will need to be downloaded from a Wi-Fi connection. Nintendo has clarified that the Virtual Console will be available immediately upon the launch of the 3DS.”

Hmm… Nintendo has said that the eShop won’t be available through May… and I’m under the impression that you purchase Virtual Console games from the store. So, how will this work?

A Cave Story remake has just been announced by NIS. The game is set to be released on the 3DS this Summer. Check out the first details about the title below. Daisuke Amaya on the 3DS…

On the 3DS, there’s a great possibility for action games, especially these jumping around, action-type games like Mario, and things like that. But because there’s that sense of depth, players will be able to visually experience the distance. Like, before, it’s a simple “hit the button to jump across,” but now you’ll be able to hold down the button for a certain length to be able to jump a certain distance with the depth. And the visual difference is probably going to be a big plus for future action games.

Daisuke Amaya on a possible Cave Story sequel…

“The original Cave Story took me five years to create, and the testers that were playing the game, they wanted to have something even more difficult than the original stages. So I created the Hell stage, and put so much effort into it that I basically said, “all right, this is the grand finale for Cave Story for now.” And then I wanted to create a few other games on the side, which I was able to in the past few years. So I’m satisfied with that. It’s now been 10 years since the original Cave Story came out, so I’m now thinking that maybe it’s time to start thinking about a sequel for Cave Story. There’s a very, very good chance we’ll see a sequel.”
