The rise and fall of Nintendo’s stocks over the last couple of years has been interesting, to say the least. After declining for years following the tepid response to the Wii U, shares have been surging lately once Nintendo entered the mobile gaming market. The company’s various smartphone ventures, including Super Mario Run and Pokemon GO (despite Nintendo’s limited involvement with that one), caused tremendous increases to Nintendo’s stock values.

However, it seems like shareholders are excited by more than just mobile news – following last night’s announcement of the reveal trailer for the NX, Nintendo’s shares have risen by 4.6%, which added more than $1 billion in market value.

Of course, the is just the prelude to the main event. Will the actual NX reveal see shares rise even more, or will they drop back down?

What exactly is the NX? One tomorrow’s preview trailer arrives, we should have a much better idea. But for now, there is still plenty of uncertainty surrounding the system.

Interestingly, Nintendo is labeling NX as a “home gaming system”. That comes directly from the company’s North American home page here.

Stay tuned.

Former Destructoid UK editor-in-chief (now of Kotaku UK, Polygon) Laura Kate Dale tweeted out some speculation about NX news tomorrow before Nintendo confirmed the platform’s preview trailer. Now she’s come forward with some apparent information about what we can expect.

This is part-rumor and part-spoiler potentially, so we’ve posted the details after the break.

It’s been a (very) long time coming, but we’ll finally be hearing something about NX tomorrow straight from Nintendo. The big N is releasing a trailer at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET tomorrow morning.

The use of the term “trailer” here should imply that this won’t be anything too long like a Nintendo Direct, but now we know exactly what to expect. Nintendo said on its Japanese Twitter account that the video will run for three minutes.

Normally this would be something we’d be hesitant to post (or something we’d avoid entirely), but numerous sources are coming forward and claiming that Nintendo will finally be sharing news about the NX tomorrow.

It started with these tweets from Emily Rogers:

Former Destructoid UK editor-in-chief and freelancer also shared the following tweets a short while ago:

Analyst and Kantan Games CEO Dr. Serkan Toto shared some interesting tweets about Super Mario Run as well as the reveal of NX a few minutes ago.

Regarding Super Mario Run, DeNA is handling actual development – not Nintendo. DeNA is primarily in charge of the engineering and creation. However, the company isn’t designing or directing it. Nintendo watches over QA and is essentially the creative team. Shigeru Miyamoto is personally overseeing Super Mario Run’s progress as we know. To clarify further, Super Mario Run is being designed and directed by Nintendo in Kyoto while DeNA takes care of engineering in Tokyo.

Toto has also heard that the NX will not be revealed this week, despite some rumors indicating otherwise. While that may (or may not) be true, it also seems that Nintendo will talk about its platform as part of its Q2 earnings next Wednesday – which certainly makes sense. Toto is more confidence in his source about Super Mario Run than NX.

Destructoid shared a report earlier this year that a new Beyond Good & Evil game would be heading to NX as an exclusive. Since then, creator Michel Ancel has shared numerous pieces of art, ultimately leading to a confirmation that a new title in the series is in pre-production. LetsPlayVideoGames – and the author of Destructoid’s initial piece – is now sharing additional information about the situation with an article of its own.

Having spoken with a source at Ubisoft, the site reports that the new title “is planned to be more of a standalone reboot than a traditional sequel.” LetsPlayVideoGames goes on to say, “the currently planned direction for the game is that it will partially retell Jade’s origin tale from Beyond Good & Evil, flesh out Peyj’s backstory, then continue to extrapolate on the ending of the original game.” By doing so, new players wouldn’t feel intimidated to give it a shot, and fans would have some closure about the original’s cliffhanger at the end. We would also learn “who Jade is and what drives Pey’j.” The plan would be to give the game a subtitle instead of a number at the end.

As for when we’ll be seeing something of the new Beyond Good & Evil, LetsPlayVideoGames has heard that a CG trailer will be shown at the unveiling of NX. Also, if the site si correct, it will be exclusive to Nintendo’s upcoming platform as Destructoid originally claimed. Ubisoft is also said to be targeting a Summer 2018 launch.

Sean Paul and “Sorry” by Justin Bieber, and classic favorites like “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen and quirky tunes such as “Oishii Oishii” by Wanko Ni Mero Mero. The new Maroon 5 track that debuted this week, “Don’t Wanna Know” will also be included.

Head past the break for the full tracklist.

Senran Kagura

This past week, Marvelous announced a new Senran Kagura game known as Peach Beach Splash. It’s not planned for Nintendo platforms, but series creator and producer Kenichiro Takaki remains interested in supporting what the big N brings to the table.

In an interview with DualShockers, Takaki spoke briefly about his interest in NX as well as how he still wants to make a pinball game. You can read his comments on both of those topics below, along with talk about how Nintendo initially reacted to Senran Kagura.
