Darksiders Warmastered Edition Switch tech analysis

Darksiders Warmastered Edition recently made its way to Switch. It’s a particularly interesting port, as the game has a number of technical options players can enable/disable. Digital Foundry takes a closer look at it all in its latest analysis today.

Darksiders Warmastered Edition lets you choose between “High Quality and “High Performance”. When playing docked, the former option has 30 frames per second at a 1080p resolution while the latter has an unlocked frame rate and a resolution of 1440×810. When playing in handheld mode, High Quality runs at 720p while those who have the High Performance option enabled will have the action reduced to 540p.

Looking further at docked play, Darksiders mostly runs at 60 frames per second with the performance mode enabled, but there are some situations when it dips – mainly during combat and when effects start filling up the screen. Moving through the world itself is fine and shouldn’t cause any issues. The quality mode holds the 30 FPS target well without drops.

As for portable play, Darksiders again mostly manages to run at 60 FPS with drops here and there under the same circumstances when High Performance is on. Quality mode reduces the action to 30 FPS with improved image quality.

No matter how you play, the verdict is that Darksiders on Switch is better than the original PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 release as well as the 2017 Wii U version. The PS4 / Xbox One / PC versions may have an edge, but not a massively noticeable one.
