Internet Gaming Phenomenon Draws the Line on Nintendo (UK)

Line Rider FreestyleTM, the evolution of the game that attracted 4 million players in one month, launches on Nintendo DSTM today

London, UK – 17th July 2009 – Deep Silver, the games label of Koch Media, a leading producer and distributor of digital entertainment products, tomorrow launches the long-awaited Nintendo DS version of the internet phenomenon game, Line Rider™.

Line Rider Freestyle takes the original concept and hones it perfectly to make use of the two screens and the Nintendo DS stylus, creating a compelling, addictive, and portable extension to the game played by millions of people worldwide.

The Line Rider game was invented by Slovenian university student, Boštjan TMŒadež. Like any games based on simple ideas, the physic-based sled game became an unexpected overnight internet phenomenon, in much the same way as Alexey Pajitnov’s legendary Tetris game was catapulted into the record books on Game BoyTM – a rather poetic homage, perhaps, that Line Rider should be developed and published for today’s handheld Nintendos, although the technology inside today’s Nintendo DS far outstrip that of their 8-bit ancestor.

When Line Rider released as a Flash game on the web back in 2006, an incredible 4 million people played in the first month alone. What was originally a cool ‘physics toy’ game, suddenly had 50,000 videos being submitted by players daily!

The premise of the game is simple: Players draw a line for a boy to sled down. But like all the best games, what’s simple to get into is difficult to master. Nintendo DS players use the Nintendo DS stylus to draw the course using a number of line types, and can decorate their masterpiece to make it even more impressive. It takes a steady hand and a smooth line to create the perfect course, and, for even more challenge, the game features extra story modes.

The game was nominated for IGN’s Best Puzzle Game of the Year in 2008, and Line Rider will undoubtedly enter the history books once historians have had “just one last go…”

Line Rider Freestyle releases today on Nintendo DS retailing at £19.99, and WiiTM for £24.99. More details of the game can be found on the official website at http://linerider.deepsilver.com/
