Katana Kami: A Way of the Samurai Story releasing 2-20-20 in Japan

Publisher Spike Chunsoft and developer Acquire have announced that Katana Kami: A Way of the Samurai Story finally has a release date for both digital and physical copies (Steam, Switch, and PS4) in Japan: February 20th, 2020. The price is listed at 3,980 yenThe retail listing for the game was also updated, which you can check out after the break.

Level Up Yourself and Your Sword in Automatically Generated Dungeons

By examining the pine tree at night, you can enter a dungeon connected to another world. These are automatically generated dungeons that change form each time you enter, allowing you to enjoy them anew many times over. In the dungeon, you will have to manage your “HP” and “vitality” parameters. When your HP becomes zero, you will die and lose all your possessions. Sheathing your sword consumes vitality and automatically restores HP.

Defeating monsters in the dungeon will increase your “dan” level. For every increase in dan, your HP and vitality will fully recover, and their maximum values increase, but once you return to the surface world, these parameters will reset. Your sword also has a “sword rank” level, which increasing can unlock new skills and title conditions to enhance your sword. Since your sword rank returns with you to the surface world, try not to die beforehand.

Apology Actions

The apology actions from previous Way of the Samurai titles return. While these may seem useless at first, they play an active role in a variety of situations, including:

  • When you want to apologize for doing something wrong.
  • When you want to be forgiven by your enemies.
  • When you need more time to repay your debt.

While you may apologize freely, it is up to the other party to decide whether or not to forgive you.

New Crossroads Killing Mode

“New Crossroads Killing Mode” is a multiplayer mode where players can enjoy the excitement of not knowing whether they will be double-crossed when randomly connected to another player’s asynchronous avatar or synchronous self at each floor in the dungeon. Defeating a player’s asynchronous avatar will earn you swords or items, while defeating their synchronous self will earn you money. However, when you are defeated by another player, you will not lose your swords. Through symbol-based chat, you can indicate whether you intend to “cooperate” or “compete” with the other player, but that can be changed at any time to double-cross them. However, players that repeatedly double-cross will become “Wanted” and targeted by other players. When defeat seems likely, you should probably apologize.
