Let’s Talk #32: What are you playing? – December 2015

It’s the first weekend of a new month. Specifically, December has now rolled on in! So we want to know: what are you playing? Tell us in the comments below!

As for me, I’ve been a bit quiet with gaming as of late. I did start up Fantasy Life, but I’m just a few hours in. I like what I’ve played thus far though!

Highlights from last week’s topic: Have you tried out Nintendo Badge Arcade?

I absolutely love the Badge Arcade! Call me old fashioned, but I love arcades. There’s something so simple, thrilling, and fun about spending a little bit of money on the off chance of winning little or big. The nice thing about Badge Center is that it doesn’t totally rip you off. It gives you the option to play once a day for free, or pay a little money to get a full play. It’s a simple system, and it’s designed to be exactly like a crane game in the arcade.

I’ve had this since last December when it launched in Japan, and I currently have 1132 badges. Yes, I have spent a little money on the game, but most of my winnings have some from simply playing the free play every day and getting play bonuses. I think the bunny is hilarious, but that’s the Japanese version. I’ve heard he’s a bit strange in the English translation, which is unfortunate. He’s always doing silly puns and speaking in ridiculous slang terminology, and it cracks me up every time.

Badge Center is the perfect little game to give you reason to open up your 3DS every day. It only takes a couple minutes of your time, and it gives you the chance to decorate you 3DS menu with some really cool stuff! I’m currently using a fun mix of Wind Waker and Splatoon badges. The Splatoon ones, especially, are awesome!

I’ve spent $6 on it, gotten 91 badges, and regret nothing. The rabbit is hilarious. Also, you can generally get 1 free play daily if you do well enough on the practice machine. 10 practice badges = 1 play.

I was one of those people who waiting for this game to be localized ever since it first came out. When it finally came out I was ecstatic. I’ve already put after dollars into this. I think they had a good idea with this and I really do enjoy the collectible aspect to this. However, there are a couple things that they should change to make it better.

First, I like the idea of the rabbit asking questions about certain games, but I think if you get it correct you should get a free play. I don’t like having to answer questions about a game I already own just for the heck of it with no real reward.

Second, they really should give us more free plays with the practice catcher. The first day I played I found 3 free plays, the next day I found 1. After that I haven’t found any free plays, even though I’ve cleared the out all the badges a couple times. It makes me not even want to play the practice catcher.

Lastly, they shouldn’t force you to use any free plays that they give you right away. They should let us be able to save them for badges we really want.

I play it, but have yet to actually use any of the badges, I don’t see much point in adding MORE clutter to my 3ds homescreen (my Digital games and VC games do that enough on their own).

Not gonna put any real money into it, as I really don’t want to support the micro-transaction model. But the practice catcher is alright as a little daily thing to do. It really annoys me how I can clear a machine with my practice catcher plays and still not get ANY free plays though, I feel like there should at least be one free play per machine. Honestly the fact that it is NOT the case makes me LESS inclined to spend money on the game as it makes me frustrated to play perfectly for no reward.
