Mario Kart Wii sold five times as many copies as Mario Kart 8 for Wii U during the previous fiscal year

Here’s an interesting tidbit stemming from Nintendo’s latest financial results. Between March 2018 and March 2019, Mario Kart Wii sold another 100,000 units. During the same period, Mario Kart 8 on Wii U sold 20,000 copies. That means Mario Kart Wii sold five times as many copies as Mario Kart 8 during the last fiscal year.
Here’s a chart that puts things into perspective:
Wii was a much more successful console than Wii U, so this does make sense. But it’s still interesting to see that Mario Kart Wii continues to sell even after more than a decade.
Lifetime sales of Mario Kart Wii are at 37.20 million copies. Mario Kart 8 sits at 8.44 million units.
Thanks to Jake for the tip.
