Metroid Prime Remastered frame rate resolution

Metroid Prime Remastered ended up on Switch last week following a reveal in the latest Nintendo Direct, and Digital Foundry has now provided a technical analysis that includes coverage on aspects like frame rate and resolution. Retro Studios seems to have done a great job bringing back the GameCube classic here, and it’s closer to a remake.

Here’s the full roundup of tidbits:

– Game uses sophisticated baked environmental lighting solution
– Areas are now much more lifelike
– Visual design of each area has been updated
– New light sources have been added
– Existing objects in the world have been given emissive properties
– Static volumetric lighting present in many spots
– Materials exhibit accurate lighting response
– One small omission is that beam weapons don’t usually cast dynamic lights throughout the environment like in the original
– Models and textures have been completely remade
– Models now have a fair bit of polygonal complexity
– A ton of incidental detail has been added
– All major bits of geometry from the original game are represented
– First-person visor still fogs up and can get covered
– Geometry-based water ripple effect from the original has been replicated alongside more intricate deformation in smaller pools of water
– Surface detail on the water is improved
– One change is that glossy domes in Chozo ruins no longer reflect Samus
– Animation data reused
– Weapon bobbing from the original has been toned down
– Metroid Prime Remastered resolution when docked is 900p
– 600p in portable mode
– Dynamic resolution not used
– Game doesn’t appear to use anti-aliasing
– Metroid Prime Remastered frame rate is 60 FPS
– No frame rate dips
– Frame rate essentially identical whether docked/portable
– Almost no load times
