Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection

In a recent issue of Switch Player, Team Ninja boss Fumihiko Yasuda spoke about Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection in-depth, including the version made for Nintendo’s console specifically.

At one point, the magazine asked about about concessions that needed to be made. Yasuda highlighted the importance of response during gameplay – which is key for the fast-paced action of Ninja Gaiden. As such, Team Ninja made some compromises with resolution on Switch “in order to prioritize processing speed”.

Yasuda explained:

“Response is definitely key to this action game and something we can’t compromise on. So in order to prioritize processing speed, we had to make some compromises with the resolution. However, I think that players will definitely be able to feel the engaging controls and responsiveness of these games.”

Yasuda also spoke more generally about the difficulties in remastering the Ninja Gaiden games in general:

“These titles were not designed originally with the purpose of being remastered, so we had some challenges to overcome. We decided to start in reverse chronological order and began work on Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, followed by Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, and lastly Ninja Gaiden Sigma. The programming framework became well organized when we worked on the PS Vita versions of the games (Sigma 2 Plus, Sigma Plus), so we were able to effectively use those source codes. (And just to note, issues such as the framerate drop and difficulty of inputting certain commands that occurred with Sigma 2 Plus and Sigma Plus have been taken care of!).”

Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection is out now on the Switch eShop.
