Wii U owners are lucky in a certain respect. Despite the fact that big name multiplatform titles appear to be skipping their console altogether, they have the distinct honor of being able to choose, via Kickstarter, what indie titles they want to come to their system in the future. The latest in the online trend to bring indie games to Wii U is a game called Slashear, which has players running around smashing rabbits that are dressed up as famous movie characters with a baseball bat.

Here’s a video to make up for my poor describing abilities:

If you want to consider putting your money towards the game’s $64,000 Wii U goal (or its PC goal of $48K), you can check out its Kickstarter page here.

Mighty Switch Force 2 is coming. Developer WayForward confirmed the game’s existence late last month.

Just a short while ago, WayFoward sent out a tweet that seems to contain the first screenshot from Switch Force 2:

As it turns out, LEGO City: Undercover can be downloaded from the Wii U eShop without a hard drive. Wii U Basic Set owners will not be able to fit the 22GB file on their system, but Deluxe Set owners should be good to go. It will definitely take up most of a Deluxe Set’s internal storage!

Some have said that Nintendo should go third-party. Others, like analysts, have suggested that the company should bring some of their content to mobile platforms including the iPhone and Android. However, Nintendo’s top brass including Satoru Iwata have not exactly been open the possibility.

One game that wouldn’t work so well on mobile devices is Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, according to its developers. A couple of the team’s staffers were asked about their thoughts about whether they could imagine the 3DS game on a piece of hardware such as the iPhone, but both feel that it’s a perfect match for Nintendo’s portable.

First up, here’s one comment from supervisor Yoshihito Ikebata:

“Actually, I really think that the feeling and the core of the game is only possible because it’s on this particular hardware, the 3DS. And it is really hard to imagine it running on anything else.”

And another from Next Level Games director Bryce Holliday:

“For me, I would add that Luigi’s an expressive personality. We spent a lot of time on the presentation and showing a lot of his face. Having your fingers on top of him—like you would have to do on a smartphone—would occlude some of that character. It’s nice to have buttons basically. It also might be hard to do a fishing mechanic with siding and tapping on a touch screen rather than having a circle pad and shoulder buttons.”

When you think about it, the fact that Nintendo allowed Next Level Games to make Super Mario Strikers was somewhat unexpected. The studio was a bit unproven at the time yet the Big N nonetheless allowed the developer to get its hands on some of the company’s most-beloved characters.

You might be wondering: how did Next Level’s partnership with Nintendo begin? It was actually the initiative on the part of Next Level that got the ball rolling. The team first decided to make a Mario soccer demo “with no direction from Nintendo”.

Read on below for comments from Next Level Games discussing how Mario Strikers as well as Punch-Out!! came to be.

Not much has been said about the Wii U version of Project Cards, but it sounds like it’ll be a fairly competent version.

Developer Slightly Mad Studios is looking to achieve a resolution of 720p while maintaining 30 FPS. While some may have hoped for a higher resolution or FPS count, the company is assuring that the game will “look and feel amazing”.

Creative director Andy Tudor, in an interview with NowGamer, said:

“We always prefer to aim for 30fps generally in order to keep gameplay-specific features like having more cars on track or better weather effects etc. So that’s standard across all consoles, and we’re more likely to utilize the native 720p support of the Wii U for launch especially since our physics and rendering systems demand a lot of processing power in order to deliver a truly next-gen experience. All you need to know is that when you get the game, it’ll look and feel amazing and you’ll want to show it off to your friends.”
