During IGN’s latest Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, former GameSpy Technology general manager Todd Northcutt was brought in to discuss some of the behind the scenes details about the service and the company’s relationship with Nintendo. For those unaware, GameSpy provided the back-end infrastructure for Wii/DS games.

We brought you just a few of these details on Friday. Now you can find a more comprehensive summary below.

About a week ago, Circle Entertainment confirmed that Quell Reflect was in Nintendo’s European lot check. A June release was tentatively planned.

Circle provided a new update regarding Quell Reflect’s European version today, confirming that the game is now slated for July. The company also reconfirmed plans to bring out another Quell game.

Just a few days ago, rumors circulated of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U incorporating NFC functionality. This was based on a comment made by Nintendo France general director Stephan Bole, who seemed to confirm the news while speaking with French outlet Le Figaro (since removed from the interview by the way).

Unsurprisingly, Nintendo is keeping quiet about the situation. When asked to comment on the rumor, a company spokesperson from the UK told CVG:

“On 8th May 2014, Mr Iwata announced the decision for Nintendo to release character figurines with built-in NFC functionality that are compatible with video games starting from this year-end sales season. There has, however, not been any specific announcements regarding which software titles for Nintendo platforms will use this functionality. We have no other announcements to make at this time.”

Originally announced as a single project, CrashGem’s new RPG “Churbles” will now be released as an episodic series.

CrashGem shared the news in a Kickstarter update yesterday, confirming plans to bring the title out “as an ongoing series of episodic games rather than one large beefy indie RPG.” Each entry will last about 4-6 hours. According to CrashGem, “Some episodes will have stand alone stories, while others, like the ‘Ghosts of War’ storyline, will tell smaller interconnected stories that weave together to form a larger, grander tale.”

The first episode of Churbles has a strong chance of landing on PC in December, followed by Linux and Mac versions. Console editions will follow “after that”, so we’re probably looking at an early 2015 launch for Churbles on Wii U.
