Pokemon GO surpasses $3.6 billion in global player spending as game reaches fourth anniversary

Pokemon GO just reached its fourth anniversary having originally released on July 6, 2016. Since then, the mobile game has gone on to earn $3.6 billion in global player spending.

Here are some other notable points, courtesy of Sensor Tower:

– 2019 was a record year for player spending at $905 million
– Its previous best year was 2016 with an estimated $832.5 million in just six months
– U.S. has generated close to $1.3 billion (35.4 percent)
– Japan is second, followed by Germany
– $1.9 billion from Google Play (53.6 percent)
– $1.7 billion from App Store (46.4 percent)
– 576.7 million unique downloads worldwide
– U.S. installs are at 105.2 million (18.2 percent)
– Brazil is second with installs at 63 million downloads, followed by Mexico at #3 with 36 million
– Google Play downloads at 450 million (78.3 percent)
– App Store accounts for 125.4 million (21.7 percent)
– Pokemon GO has generated $445.3 million in the first half of 2020, putting it on course to match or even exceed the record spending it saw in 2019
