Pokemon Scarlet and Violet breeding

Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet are bringing back breeding, but things are a little bit different in the series’ latest entries. New details have now surfaced as part of the newest leaks surrounding the games.

There’s not much in the way of story spoilers here, but keep in mind that we’ll be going over some tidbits that some may prefer to learn about themselves.

We’re now hearing that with breeding in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, picnics are essentially portable Day Cares. Players can start a picnic and have two compatible Pokemon in their party. The good news is that the typical breeding rules apply, so you’ll want to walk around in the picnic. Then at some point, an Egg will show up in the basket. The process can be spend up by making a sandwich.

For the most part, the process sounds pretty straightforward, though we’re not sure what happens if you have more than two compatible Pokemon. Also, we’re hearing that the rest of the breeding mechanics such as passing down Poke Balls and the Masuda method should still work as normal.

Breeding has been a part of the Pokemon games since it’s earliest days. Although the mechanic wasn’t around for Gen 1, it became a staple in the following generation.

Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet will be out for Switch on November 18, 2022.
