Reggie asked about Switch’s Golf Easter egg / Satoru Iwata tribute, remains mostly quiet

Switch owners discovered a fantastic Easter egg several weeks ago. On July 11, Golf can be accessed on the system by motioning the Joy-Con in a certain way. Basically, you need to perform the “direct” motion late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata used to show in Nintendo Direct presentations.
Kotaku recently asked Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime about the Easter egg. Oddly though, he was fairly quiet about it and wouldn’t really comment on the tribute specifically.
Here’s what Reggie said:
“So, two comments on this. It was identified by folks playing around in the firmware. We’ve got nothing officially to announce for that content or what the plans are for that content. So that’s that. Certainly anything that pays respect to my friend Mr. Iwata is something that is near and dear to me personally, but in terms of that execution and what it was meant to do or what the plans are, we’ve got nothing to announce.”
“I’m struck whenever I go back to Kyoto and spend time in our headquarters and spend time in the offices where Mr. Iwata, myself and others would be meeting. It’s always personally touching. And so, again, no comment on that particular execution.”
Kotaku points out that there could be several reasons as to why Reggie is keeping quiet. It could be due to hackers originally finding the secret, the fact that we weren’t supposed to know about it, or an unauthorized tribute that Nintendo itself wasn’t originally aware of.
