Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion

A year after Splatoon 2 originally launched, Nintendo issued the first paid DLC for Splatoon 2. Players are able to get their hands on Octo Expansion for more single-player fun.

Where did the idea for Octo Expansion come from and what was behind the decision to release the DLC? In an interview with InsideGamer, producer Hisashi Nogami explained:

“So we began development on the Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion after we had safely launched the Splatoon 2 main game. And at that time, we had a number of gameplay ideas as well as story elements that we wanted to continue to flesh out and so we used the opportunity of the Octo Expansion to continue work on those.”

Later in the interview, Nogami was asked if the team already has plans for the final Splatfest. It turns out they do not, as themes aren’t decided in advance.

According to Nogami:

“Well, to be honest with you, we actually haven’t decided on a theme for the last Splatfest for Splatoon 2. That’s a good point to mention, that we don’t actually decide the themes for all of our Splatfests ahead of time, but rather we kind of keep a running look of what the community would enjoy and try to make those decisions about Splatfest themes on a real-time basis as we go forward. And so for the last Splatfest for Splatoon 2, we’d like to continue watching what the community might enjoy most, and keep an eye on that as we approach that time as we still have some time left.”
