Runbow made its debut on the North American Wii U eShop today. Once installed on your console (or external hard drive), the game takes up 709MB of space. That’s not too far off from the size of the Nindies@Home demo released during E3.

13AM Games is completely finished with Runbow’s development, but the company hasn’t stopped working on the title all together. Writing in a Reddit AMA, producer Dave Proctor mentioned that more content – including costumes and levels – will be added in the future. Additionally, any issues that crop up will be addressed as well.

Proctor mentioned:

“We’re planning new content right now and we’ll be making announcements very very soon. Suffice it to say we will continue to fix issues if there are any, and we want you guys to know that we are appreciative for all of your support. Definitely new costumes and levels down the road.”

13AM Games also expressed some interest in the 3DS during the AMA session, and also left the door open to a Runbow sequel. You can read the full Q&A here.

Runbow launched today on the North American Wii U eShop. The European release is set for September, and a specific date will be announced in the very near future.

It’s not too often that an indie release comes around and blows my expectations out of the water. But with Runbow, it appears that the folks over at 13AM Games have successfully created a title worthy of being the exception. Bringing a new concept to the platformer genre is about as difficult as it gets, and it’s even harder to make it all work. Yet with Runbow, the developer has gracefully created a game filled with as much innovation as there is fun. Also, did I mention you get to play as Shovel Knight and Rusty?

Runbow will be available on the North American Wii U eShop tomorrow in North America, and September in Europe. 44 minutes of footage from the game can be seen below.
