Nintendo isn’t against bringing some of its franchises into Animal Crossing.

Longtime developer of the series, Aya Kyogoku, told GameRant in an interview that this is something that could be considered. However, it sounds like IPs and characters won’t be thrown in just for the sake of doing so.

Kyogoku’s full comments are as follows:

“Obviously we don’t know what the next Animal Crossing is going to look like, but if the addition of other IPs in the next Animal Crossing is going to really excite both fans of Animal Crossing and fans of those other IPs even more then that’s something we’d really like to consider and take into account. But at the same time, we really wanted to make sure that the gameplay we put into the next Animal Crossing is fun and new. I wouldn’t want to add a feature where people thought it was about time or expected the next iteration would have. So instead of that, I’d like to have fun and good surprises in the gameplay.”

In a recent interview Hisashi Nogami of Nintendo EAD did with Engadget, they touched on tons of topics from Splatoon, his early career, Yoshi’s Island and much more. One of the more notable pieces of the interview is when he discusses a bit about Animal Crossing on the Wii U, which a lot of people have been asking for, with rumors flying around of a potential showing at this year’s E3 event. Here’s an excerpt below:

So my very last question then is: When are we going to see Animal Crossing on Wii U?

Well, that’s difficult for me to answer at the moment! Yup. That’s pretty much all we can say.

What I will say is that you may have seen an announcement recently about anAnimal Crossing product coming out on the 3DS… I can tack that on to the end of my response.

Later this month, the Animal Crossing Plaza service will be coming to a close. Nintendo is planning on removing the software from the eShop after December 22.

While time is running out on Animal Crossing Plaza, it sounds like there could still be some exciting things in the works for Animal Crossing overall. Well, maybe. An official message posted on Miiverse makes note of how news will be posted to the Animal Crossing News Community in 2015.
