Constructor

System3 shared new details about its upcoming Switch game Constructor today. Specifically, we have information about the undesirables, “colorful characters, who you’ll send to terrorize rival builders.”

The lineup is as follows:

The Hippy – They hold street parties, squat, or picket an opponent building.
Killer Clown – All round dangerous individuals that cause damage all over the place.
The Ghost – Scares tenants to within an inch of their lives and sends them packing.
Mr Fixit – The repairman you should never hire – he’ll bodge the whole job.
The Phsyco – Stay away from him, because he’s just plain crazy!
The Thugs – These give Phil Mitchell a run for his money as the nastiest piece of work around.
The Thief – Lock up your valuables, because these guys steal everything.
The Gangster – Your chosen hitman. Need someone silenced, buildings burned to the ground? He’s your man.
Constructor is in development to launch in 2017, to commemorate 20th Anniversary of the multi-million-selling city builder’s original release, sharing a dark and wonderful world with feverish fans and a whole new audience.

Constructor will be out on Switch sometime this summer.

Constructor was originally planned for Switch’s launch. Shortly after that news was shared, we heard about a delay to April 28. It’s now been pushed back again, as System 3 now says we should be seeing it sometime this summer. We’re unclear why Constructor isn’t ready, though hopefully we won’t have to report on any additional delays.

System 3 has published the boxart for Constructor, coming to Switch on April 28 (not launch). Take a look at it above.

Update (1/18): Constructor is not coming to Switch at launch. The PR company who sent out the original press release was given incorrect information, and the game is now planned for April 28.

Original (1/17): A week ago we reported that a Constructor remake was in the works for Switch and other platforms. 20 years after the original title, System 3 will be releasing this fantastic city builder for every other platform on February 28th.

A bit later, Constructor will come to Switch on launch day (March 3rd), so players will be able to take their constructions on the go immediately after purchasing the new system.

Here’s the official System 3 PR:

System 3, the world’s longest running privately owned publisher and developer of market-defining PC & Console titles, proudly announces that its long-awaited Constructor will be released on the hotly anticipated Nintendo Switch™ console.

The release of Constructor on Nintendo Switch™ marks the 20th Anniversary of the multi-million-selling city builder and is testament to System 3’s ability to keep up with the rapidly-changing world of gaming hardware.

Using the Nintendo Switch™, Constructor fans will be able to seamlessly take their construction empire with them, allowing players to build, sabotage, and cause construction chaos anywhere. Caught short and need to lay some pipe during Constructor? Undock your Nintendo Switch™, take your place on the porcelain throne, and continue building your empire in uninterrupted comfort. Just remember to flush.

Constructor also utilises the wireless play of the Nintendo Switch™, allowing up to four mates to effortlessly play against each other in the many multiplayer Constructor challenges.

The drive and ambition to bring products to the world’s most dynamic gaming systems has stood System 3 in good stead over its 35-year existence. The Nintendo Switch is the latest example of hardware allowing us to bring our unique vision to the market. You’ll now be able to build and run your construction empire anywhere you like – you’ll never stop building!“, said Mark Cale, CEO of System 3.

Constructor will be released on launch day for Nintendo Switch™, and 28th February for Xbox One, PlayStation® 4, & Steam players.

System 3 created Constructor way back in 1997. Nearly 20 years later, it’s receiving a remake. The game is confirmed for Switch as well as other platforms. On Nintendo’s console, it’s due out later this year.

Here’s what you need to know:

“Constructor sets players as budding property tycoons, who must take on their rivals in the creation of a successful city. This doesn’t just involve the speedy building of homes and businesses, however; players must negotiate the tangled web of Undesirables, a motley collection of reprobates that can be used against them – and by them, against others.

The use of Undesirables forms one of the core gameplay mechanics. Whether employing a group of antagonistic Thugs to terrorize a neighbourhood, sending round a Hippy to squat in opponents’ empty properties, bringing in Mr Fix It to botch their gas supplies or involving the criminal underworld in your enterprises, there are many tools at your disposal to help hinder your fellow players and make their commercial lives a living hell. Facing a protection racket from the mob? Why not send along a group of maniacal Clowns to terrify your enemy into submission!
