E3 2015

Nintendo has confirmed to IGN that president and CEO Satoru Iwata will not be attending E3 2015 this year. However, Shigeru Miyaomto and other developers will be on hand at next month’s expo.

In a statement, Nintendo said:

Nintendo’s focus for E3 this year will be showcasing the many games we have coming for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Mr. Miyamoto and other members of our development team will be in Los Angeles to explain these games and the unique experiences that each offers. Mr. Iwata’s focus in this period will be on other areas of our business that require his presence in Japan.

Nintendo also said that Iwata will be in “constant contact” with the away team in Los Angeles. He’ll also be monitoring the reaction to Nintendo’s announcements.

You may recall that Iwata skipped last year’s E3 as well. That was in large part due to health issues he was experiencing at the time.

A few mysterious listings have appeared in Best Buy’s system. The retailer now has “Dummy SKUs” entries for various platforms, including Wii U and 3DS. These all are E3-related, so I assume pre-orders for these unknown games will kick off during the event next month.

Nintendo has started sending out invitations for a “business presentation” that will be held at this year’s E3. The company plans on discussing what lies ahead through Holiday 2015 along with “a sneak preview of what’s coming in 2016”.

Nintendo’s business presentation will take place on June 16 between 9 AM and 10 AM PT. It’ll be happening during the same time as the Nintendo Digital Event, for what it’s worth.

Last year, Mega64 worked with Nintendo for the company’s E3 2014 video. It turns out that the same can be said of this year’s version as well.

Mega64 has now uploaded the official video to its YouTube channel, and the description states that they “helped behind the scenes in making Nintendo’s E3 2015 announcement video.”

Mega64 also wrote on its website:

You may have noticed that Nintendo released a brand new video today promoting their plans for E3 2015! And in case you’re wondering… yes, the Mega64 crew did help in creating the video (as if you couldn’t tell by the sound of my gnarled singing voice). While we weren’t really in spotlight of this piece, we still worked behind the scenes to bring Nintendo’s big announcements to life.

I’m a tiny bit surprised! Since the Mega64 logo didn’t pop up at the end of the video Nintendo uploaded yesterday, I assumed that they were’t involved. Guess I was wrong!

There’s not much to see currently other than an overview of what Nintendo has planned. We’re expecting it to be updated with a ton of content during the expo next month.

Nintendo will finally be revealing its E3 2015 plans tomorrow, the company has confirmed.

Specific details are, naturally, being kept under wraps for now. Nintendo only shared a photo of someone in pink sweats – perhaps Reggie Fils-Aime?

In any case, check back tomorrow at 12 PM ET / 9 AM PT for news about Nintendo’s E3 2015 plans.

Nintendo will be releasing its first mobile game this year. We don’t know what exactly is planned, but don’t expect to hear about anything at E3 2015 next month.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, speaking at the company’s latest financial briefing, confirmed that there are no plans to discuss smartphone games. That’s because they realize the event is for “dedicated gaming systems”.

SEGA

SEGA will not have a booth at this year’s E3, the company confirmed to Game Informer. An official statement reads:

Over the next months, SEGA of America will be focusing on the restructure and relocation to Southern California, and we have decided to not attend E3 with our own booth this year,” a representative told us via email. “With the majority of our bigger titles launching later in 2015/2016, particularly those from our AAA studios Relic Entertainment, Sports Interactive and Creative Assembly, we are concentrating our efforts for some of these major announcements after our relocation. Instead, we will be collaborating with our various business partners for this year’s E3 show.

This shouldn’t have too big of an impact on Wii U and 3DS owners. The only upcoming Nintendo games SEGA has confirmed for North America and Europe are Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX (which will be out later this month) and a few 3D Classics. Still, it’s a tiny bit sad that SEGA won’t be appearing at E3!

Zelda Wii U

Yesterday, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma shared news that the series’ new entry on Wii U has been delayed. IGN managed to get a comment out of Nintendo, and while it’s mostly rehash, it’s somewhat interesting.

Here’s the full statement:

As Mr. Aonuma announced, The Legend of Zelda game for Wii U is no longer targeted as a 2015 release. Rather than sticking to a specific schedule, the team wants to make this the most complete and the best game it can possibly be. The new launch timing has not yet been determined. Because we’d like to focus on developing the game, we aren’t planning on showing it at this year’s E3, where we will be highlighting games launching in 2015. We will let you know when we’re ready to share more specifics.

The last part of that statement is pretty noteworthy! Nintendo’s E3 2015 lineup is focusing on titles coming out this year, so we may not see much of what’s in store for 2016.
