EA’s first Switch game will be published next month. FIFA 18 will launch on the console along with other platforms on September 29. On the whole, early feedback has been quite positive.

EA’s future support on Switch could hinge on the performance of FIFA 18. Speaking to EDGE this month, executive vice president Patrick Söderlund noted that the company wants to support the platform “and help Nintendo grow that installed base”. He went on to say that “it”s about supporting the platform, building technology for the platform, testing it out with big things like FIFA – and maybe a couple of others, we’ll see – and if they go well, I see no reason why we shouldn’t have as much of our portfolio on that platform as possible.”

Söderlund stated:

As of now, EA has just a single game lined up for Switch – that being FIFA 18. A big question going forward is how much the publisher will end up supporting Nintendo’s console.

EA executive VP of global publishing Laura Miele commented on bringing FIFA 18 to Switch and EA’s plans in general while speaking with GamesIndustry. EA is said to be “exploring other products” and “are looking at other IP and what the technology connections need to be for that.”

Miele mentioned:

“FIFA is the largest game in the business, so the offering and expansive footprint FIFA has around the globe will help connect Switch hardware to gamers as well. So I think it’s a strong mutual partnership with Nintendo. We love the mobility of the Switch and I think the content they’ve put out is really strong on it so far. We’re going to continue to watch how the hardware does. We are exploring other products. We are looking at other IP and what the technology connections need to be for that.”

Need for Speed: Payback executive producer Marcus Nilsson is a big fan of Switch. When he’s traveling on flights, he plays Zelda: Breath of the Wild. But when it comes to actually supporting the system, his new game is unlikely to end up on the system.

GameSpot asked Nilsson about the possibility of a Switch version of Need for Speed: Payback at E3 2017. In response, he said:

“I love the Switch; I absolutely adore it. Would that be a platform that Need for Speed: Payback could run on? I don’t see why [not], but it’s not something we’re looking to at this very moment.”

EA CEO Andrew Wilson recently shared some new comments about Switch. During a financial call, Wilson was asked about how the publisher feels about the platform following its launch.

We thought it might be wise to pass along Wilson’s full comments. As transcribed by Seeking Alpha, he stated the following:

“So we feel really good about it. Again, we came out early and said that we’ll be supporting the Nintendo Switch with our biggest title in FIFA. We have a tremendous relationship with Nintendo and have done for many, many years and are excited by the fact that they have come out very strong and are bringing in a whole new player base into the ecosystem. We continue to be bullish on it and are looking at other titles that we might bring to the Switch.”

Thanks to Jake for the tip.

During its latest financial call today, EA was asked about Switch. CEO Andrew Wilson said that the publisher is now very bullish on the system, and expressed excitement that a new ecosystem exists. Wilson also stated that EA is considering additional games for Switch.

As of now, EA is only working on one title for Nintendo’s console – that being FIFA 18. It remains to be seen if and when we’ll be seeing any other games from the company.

EA has now officially come out and said that it’s new FIFA title for Switch will indeed be FIFA 18. While that was largely expected, it had only been labeled previously as just “FIFA”.

EA’s chief competitive officer, Peter Moore, told Gamereactor at a FIFA event held in Paris this weekend:

“Well, as we have said, we are custom-building a FIFA version for the Nintendo Switch. It will be FIFA 18, and it will obviously be later this year when FIFA 18 comes out.”

“And I look forward to seeing the Nintendo Switch. we are not far away from its launch and in fact, here in Paris, I was very impressed to see FNAC stores with Nintendo Switch in the windows.”

Gamereactor also asked about FIFA for Switch being a slimmed down version of the game on other platforms in light of rumors that it’ll be closer to the PS3 and Xbox 360 edition. He said in response, “What you have will be a custom built version for the Nintendo Switch from the FIFA development team in Vancouver.”

Executive vice president Patrick Soderlund Patrick Soderlund made some comments to IGN a few days ago about EA and Switch. Famitsu also caught up with him following the Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017 last week, where FIFA was announced for the new platform.

When asked about future titles on Switch, Soderlund said:

“I only spoke about FIFA today, but our company’s structure lets us release all sorts of games for every platform, so we’ll go wherever the gamers go. I think Nintendo Switch will put Nintendo at the forefront of the game industry once again. Their approach is quite different from anything they’ve done in the past – they’ve listened to EA, Activision, and other companies since the beginning of the Switch’s development, so we’ve been involved throughout the whole process. They teamed up with us because they wanted to guarantee the console would be successful. Doing business with Nintendo is very important for us… We’d like to bring more and more games over for everyone.”

Following EA’s announcement of FIFA on Switch, one rumor came out claiming that it could be based on PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 versions of the game. Thus far, it’s only been officially stated that the title has been “custom built” for the new console.

EA executive vice president Patrick Soderlund stopped by the Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017 last week to announce FIFA for the big N’s new console. IGN caught up with him to talk about the publisher’s support a bit more in-depth.

Soderlund started out with the following:

“We’ve been with Nintendo for a very long time. I’m a Nintendo fanboy since I grew up. Nintendo is the reason I got into gaming.”

“What I like about Nintendo is that they come to the table with a slightly different approach. They’ve done that in the past to great success, and sometimes not so much, but I think unless you’re willing to think about something unconventional, it’s going to be hard to break ground. Nintendo forces us to think differently. (Switch) challenges conventions, as game makers, makes us think about the platform in a different way.”

During the Nintendo Switch Presentation, EA announced that it will be bringing FIFA to Switch. Eurogamer’s Tom Phillips now reports that it’ll be based on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions that the publisher still churns out. It’s unclear if that information comes from EA directly, though it wouldn’t be entirely surprising.
