Watch Dogs will be available on most platforms later this month – except for Wii U. Ubisoft hopes to ship the Nintendo version of the game later this year.

While speaking with Red Bull Games, Watch Dogs creative director Jonathan Morin shared a new status update about the Wii U version of the game. He told the site that Ubisoft is now “fully focused” on finishing the project and the company is “making sure it gets the attention it deserves to make it the best version it can be.”

Morin’s comments in full:

“Right now [the Wii U version is] currently being done, but I’m not directly involved. We wanted to finish all the platforms that we are currently shipping. We needed those guys to get [the shipping versions] finished, and the good news now is that they’re all fully focused on the Wii U version, making sure it gets the attention it deserves to make it the best version it can be.”

Watch Dogs has taken multiple years of development to come to fruition. Finally though, the game is almost complete.

Many expect Ubisoft to eventually come out with a sequel to Watch Dogs given the amount of resources put into the current game. But if there is a follow up, it won’t take nearly as much time to develop.

Watch Dogs creative director Jonathan Morin told Eurogamer:

“Right now there is no such thing as a Watch Dogs 2. It’s certainly not going to be the same amount of time if we ever embark on such a journey. A big part of it was defining whatever Watch Dogs is. Once you have that starting point, then what becomes interesting is what players want more of – what comes next?

“Especially with the delay we have just been really concentrating on getting it [the original Watch Dogs] launched. After that we’ll see where it goes – I think Ubisoft is showing more and more that they’re willing to take the time for it to be right.

“I think we’re in a pretty good shape. I certainly like the idea of going deeper in the thematics – the hyperconnectivity and hacking in an entire city, controlling a city, monitoring everyone. There’s stuff we discovered by making Watch Dogs that are interesting to pursue. But it’s up to players. [And] for me right now – it’s vacation.”

Several months ago, Watch Dogs creative director Jonathan Morin stated that the Wii U version of Watch Dogs will offer visuals closer to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions as opposed to the PS4/Xbox One releases. Not much has changed since then. Morin recently reiterated to Eurogamer, “Wii U is more towards current-gen… It’s not more towards PS4.”

It’s sounding like Watch Dogs will offer players an extensive amount of content.

The game, according to creative director Jonathan Morin, will take 35-40 hours to complete. And that’s just for the main story. You’ll need to spend about 100 hours to see and do everything, Morin estimates.

Watch Dogs’ E3 2012 reveal was “forced” upon the team, creative director Jonathan Morin has said.

Speaking with EDGE this month, Morin noted that Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot pushed for the announcement. At the time, Ubisoft Montreal “felt it was a bit early”, but Morin believes Guillemot ultimately made the right decision.

Morin said:

“They forced us to go at E3 2012. We didn’t know what the hell those new consoles would be, so Watch Dogs really has worked on [seventh]-gen systems since the start. But we always pushed the ideas, the design, the core of Watch Dogs in such a way that we felt it would fit well with what we thought would be the future of games. Yves was the one who wanted us to go at that E3, even though we felt it was a bit early, and in the end I think he was right.”
