A new update is going out for Pokemon GO. Players should soon see version 1.43.1 on iOS, or version 0.73.1 on Android.

The latest update does add a couple of things, like the option to spin the Photo Disc at a Gym using Pokemon GO Plus. You can also see the number of Trainers entered / preparing for a Raid Battle before using a Raid Pass.

The full patch notes for Pokemon GO are below:

  • Added the ability for Trainers to spin the Photo Disc at a Gym using the Pokémon GO Plus accessory.
  • Added the ability to view the number of Trainers entered, and preparing, for a Raid Battle before using a Raid Pass.
  • Improved Pokémon Collection screen search functionality by allowing Trainers to search through their Pokémon’s moves using the @ character.
  • Resolved a bug which caused the Raid Boss to always break free from the last Premier Ball.
  • Resolved a bug that prevented Trainers from seeing they’d received double XP from Raid Battles when using a Lucky Egg.
  • Various bug fixes.

Niantic appears to be laying the groundwork for Generation III Pokemon in Pokemon GO. Fans have discovered a new update the company is preparing, and spotted 135 Pokemon in the APK metadata.

Note that this doesn’t necessarily indicate that Generation III is imminent. The Silph Road anticipates that it will take some time before any of these creatures show up. Niantic has yet to provide sound files for each species, and new moves could be added in as well. Both of these are needed before Generation III can go live.

In any case, these are all of the Pokemon listed:

Shiny Pikachu began to appear in Pokemon GO last week as part of the Japanese Pikachu Outbreak event. Reports are beginning to surface that the same variant is being spotted in other countries as well.

Shiny Pikachu is a slightly darker version of the regular Pokemon. On its Pokedex page, you’ll see sparkles confirming the special catch.

Following up on the news that Mewtwo began to appear for Pokemon GO players in Japan a few hours ago, Niantic has shared some news about how the Legendary Pokemon will be distributed in other regions.

Mewtwo will be appearing in a new Exclusive Raid Battle feature. It’s similar to regular Raid Battles, but players are invited to join these events. Invitations can be received by recently completing a raid and defeating the Raid Boss at the Gym where the Exclusive Raid Battle will be taking place. These invitations include advance warning of when the Exclusive Raid will take place.

The Pokemon GO Stadium event is currently happening at Yokohama in Japan. There, Mewtwo has appeared for the first time in Pokemon GO as a special raid boss, giving attendees a chance to catch this Legendary Pokemon.

There’s currently no word if or when Mewtwo will appear outside the context of that event. We will keep you updated.

A special “Pikachu Outbreak” event is currently being hosted for Pokemon GO in Japan. Through August 15, players will be able to explore two special Kanto and Johto-themed parks. The Red Brick Park has Pokemon originally from the Kanto region appearing more frequently. The same goes for the Johto region at Cup Noodle Museum Park.

Other activities are also underway, such as Pokemon rarely encountered in Japan appearing, including Mr. Mime. The Photo Disc at the PokeStops found at each of these parks may also award Trainers special 2 km Eggs with the potential to hatch a greater variety of Pokemon than usual.

That’s not all though. We’re hearing reports that a Shiny Pikachu has been sighted. That also means Shiny Raichu and (potentially) Pichu are present. For Pichu, it seems that the Pokemon has to be hatched during the duration of the event similar to Ash Hat Pichu. We’ve not actually seen a screenshot of Shiny Pichu, but since its sprite is present, it’s likely available.

Pokemon GO players have been experiencing a notable issue over the past few days. When the problem occurs, they are unable to capture a Raid Boss with their last Premier Ball. The Pokemon always breaks free.

Niantic says that a fix is already underway. For now, Pokemon GO is providing an extra Premier Ball in the Bonus Challenge.
