According to the NPD Group, spending on gaming-related accessories – including toys-to-life figures – is experiencing a five percent dip year-over-year. That amount came in at $117.1 million last month in the United States. While sales of amiibo and Skylanders have fallen, LEGO Dimensions is up, as is Disney Infinity.

NPD analyst Sam Naji says there was “a 34 percentage point shift in dollar share” from Skylanders and amiibo to Disney Infinity and LEGO Dimensions. “Although total spend for interactive gaming toys declined by 3 percent compared to last year, consumers spent an additional 55 percent on Disney Infinity accessories and $3 million on Lego Dimensions, which launched in September 2015,” Naji said.

Disney Infinity’s bump can almost certainly be distributed to retailer discounts on toys following the cancellation of the series. With amiibo, new releases have slowed, though things may pick up when the new Mario line launches in November.

Nintendo has put out a response to this month’s NPD report, of which should be published in full later today.

The company has now officially confirmed that the 3DS was the top platform in the United States last month in terms of both hardware and software. Monster Hunter Generations, continued momentum from the 2DS price drop, and the positive public reaction to Pokemon GO were all contributing factors.

Nintendo also highlighted the following in its statement:

Aquamarine has shared more sales data from the July 2016 NPD report. This time around, we have some specifics about software in the United States.

As previously mentioned, Minecraft was one of the top sellers with more than 175,000 copies sold at retail. Monster Hunter Generations, which debuted during the month, sold over 165,000 units. Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were also said to be best-sellers, though data is unavailable for each. However, the two Pokemon titles were apparently right behind Monster Hunter Generations.

Finally, we do know that a couple of Nintendo-published titles sold less than 50,000 copies in their second months. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE sold much less than 35,000 units. Kirby: Planet Robobot also lacked strong sales in its second month, having sold less than 50,000 copies.

NPD will be publishing its full report next week. When that’s made available, the top 10 best-selling games in the United States during the month of July will be revealed. Until then though, we have a few random bits of data that have been shared early.

The big thing we’re hearing is that the 3DS was the best-selling overall system. The likes of Pokemon GO and Monster Hunter Generations should have played a big role here. Unfortunately, the Wii U didn’t nearly as well (to be expected at this point) with just 24,900 units sold for a 45.7 percent drop year-over-year.

As for software, the one piece of information we have is that Minecraft was the top-selling game in July. The physical version of Minecraft: Wii U Edition should have factored into that, at least slightly.

The May 2016 NPD report was issued earlier today. Unfortunately, there were no Nintendo titles in the top 10 – be it first-party or third-party. However, that hasn’t stopped the big N from issuing a statement pointing to success in other areas.

There’s big news for 3DS, as the system “recently passed 60 million units worldwide”. Nintendo also highlighted the success of 2DS in the United States following the price drop to $80.

May was a milestone month for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Having recently passed 60 million units worldwide, the current generation’s top-selling dedicated gaming platform welcomed an entirely new audience with a lower suggested price of $79.99 for the Nintendo 2DS system. This big value has already shown big results. According to the NPD Group, which tracks U.S. video game sales, in May the system saw a 38 percent sales boost over April and a 148 percent increase year-on-year – all after just one week at the new price.

We’ll have NPD’s official list of the top ten best-selling games in the U.S. for the month of April in a bit. However, some preliminary information has arrived just a tad early.

GamesBeat reports that Star Fox Zero and Bravely Second were among April’s best-sellers. The two came in at the fifth and ninth spots respectively on the individual chart. This is different from NPD’s overall top 10 (we’ll have that shortly), which combines platforms and other items such as special editions. In that list though, Star Fox Zero does appear at the tenth spot.
